After about 3 miles of moderate jogging I've started to get without fail a numb/pins & needles feeling in my right foot. Not painful in any way, it's just a pain in the arse as the foot feels heavy and hence more of an effort to jog.

Might be better of posting on a running forum but just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

Agreed. Sounds like a pinched nerve.

Possibly related to how your pronation is affected, or affects your posture.

Ask about motion controlled running shoes and if they might help.

    What shoes do you use?

I would suggest running in the Vibram Five Fingers, KSO model or Bikila model.

yeah they look really weird, but the benefits are amazing.

you will have a difficult time finding negative reviews about them.

I have used all sorts of high end running shoes from brands such as Asics/New Balance/Brooks/etc. They were all uncomfortable. Then I discovered the Vibram Five Fingers.

  6. Assuming 'pain in the arse' was actually a metaphor for something else, i was thinking about this while running.

I used to get a numb foot for a couple reasons, shoe laces tied too tight (hey i like stability) and the main one is technique. You have to listen to your body while you run as ive found it can go numb if you're ignoring technique. Running on a small portion of numbness will make it worse, you'll need to pull over and shake your leg to get some blood down there and run properly with good contact up through your body.

If you have to see a doctor go for it but as far as i know, numbness in foot can be common with runners.
