Conn took Joe Louis to task for twelve and a half rounds before getting starched. I respect Ingo's 'Bingo', but I can see Conn's hand and foot speed keeping him out of trouble here. I'm going for Conn.
Conn knocks Ingo out. People forget Conn had some good knockouts in the heavyweight division(Pastor, Barland, Dorazio) and he badly hurt Louis in round 12. Johansson had a glass jaw, he gets outboxed for a while then knocked out late Conn KO 11 Johansson
I wouldn't say that Ingo had a glass jaw, SusieQ. Patterson hit him flush with all his weight behind the punch, the only knockout on the Swede's record. Likewise, I don't think of Conn as a HW knockout artist. When he tried, he was schooled by Louis. He could expect the same treatment from Ingo, I think.
Conn. But only just.... If Conn gets brave... And that famous right hand finds its mark, its good night for Billy. The Conn of the Lewis fight beats Johansson, by DEC.
This is a great fight, because I see very few other Lt Hvy champions troubling the Swede. Roy Jones would get starched for example. Billy is tougher and better, but only by a hair.
Johanssons right hand has become extremely overrated in these forums. It is not some killer death blow that if it lands on conn, he's automatically knocked out.
Patterson knocked him out TWICE. That was the only puncher Johansson fought. Feather fisted Brian London also knocked Johansson down and out in the 12th but Johansson was saved by the bell. The ref admitted he would have stopped the fight had the bell not rang. London was not a puncher
I don't think a TKO against the heavyweight champion and getting wobbled at the end of a fight which he won makes for a 'glass jaw'. Maybe no ATG chin, but I think it stands up to a light heavy. Just my opinion, but I think this one goes to the cards in Conn's favor.
