    Ive recently been involved in several discussions about the late John Caldwell and i have to admit i was really surprised and impressed with what i have heard. I wouldnt claim to know the man well at all, in fact ive spoke to him maybe a dozen times tops, but several men that i know very well would have watched him live at ringside - and everyone of them was unanimous that Caldwell possessed great ability. Here are some of his achievements;

    Won the junior and senior all-Ireland flyweight titles
    Beat the Australian favourite in the Melbourne olympics on his way to a bronze medal
    Won the British flyweight title as well as a Lonsdale belt
    Moved up to Bantamweight and took the world title of Alphonse Halimi in his first fight at the weight
    Beat Halimi again in a rematch
    Lost his first ever pro fight when beaten by Eder Jofre (absolutely no shame in losing to this man)
    Won the British and Commonwealth titles at Bantamweight
    Retired at the age of 27 after losing to another great fighter, the late Alan Rudkin

    In over 240 fights amateur and pro, he lost just 10 and drew 1. A record that you would expect from a hall-of-famer, and very impressive.

    I would be interested to hear from any fellas here who saw him fight, or indeed anyone with an opinion who would be familiar with Caldwells career.

    Lastly, and this is directed at HHASCUP and BUKKAKE or anyone else who could help me out. What was the name of the guy he drew with? Ive tried all i can, and still cant come up with a name.

    Many Thanks:good

    I'm a bit puzzled, when you say that you have tried to find the name of the guy he drew with - but with no success?? A few clicks on BoxRec will tell you, that he drew with Jackie Brown on November 11, 1964.

    He also was asked by the celtic manager jimmy mc grory to come in and show the players some of his running technique (whatever that meant)
    And your 100% right. He went over to glasgow when he first turned pro.
