I'm sure his wife won't appreciate the pay cut.

 Sure you are. Cena's salary alone from the WWE is over $2m. Wether you think it's alot less work is immaterial.

And the same sources that give that figure say Brock Lesnar from the UFC alone has averaged $3million per fight since 2009. And unlike Cena he can and has signed sponsorship deals independent of the central organisation he works for.

That's his base-pay. You have to also factor in his cut of the ppv as well.

Haven't got a clue what sources your on about. Cena's salary is common knowledge. And il highlight my original post AGAIN:

I repeat his WWE SALARY. Not sponsorships. Not endorsements. Not deals outside of WWE. HIS WWE salary.

As for those independent deals stop talking out of your ass. I can list a stream of fighters who have had issues with the UFC over sponsorships. Those sponsors are absolutely approved by the UFC. The spats with many of them have been very public when they have fallen out with Dana. Either way unimportant and irrelevant.

Brock is NOT getting a base pay of $1.3m. Thats bull****. His salary has been made public at each event. It has been no more than $500k tops. Only Liddell earn't more as a UFC salary than any other fighter.
Sheeeit 40 odd year old James T walked into the UFC and got $500k. You can defend it all you like. The reality is UFC salary's are a joke. END OF STORY. It's not up for debate so why rankle the point.

    1. I understood Greathazma to be querying how much Lesnar earned over his last three fights - so $1.3million would be an average of just over $400,000. That would be his base pay including his Submission Bonus at UFC 116.

    2. Every single reputable media outlet that gives payout figures for Lesnar's fights says he also gets a cut of the pay per view. Not one single credible source claims that his salary is actually $400,000 per fight. ESPN had his salary for two fights in 2010 as being just under $6million. You make yourself look at best stupid and at worst mendacious by trying to deny this.

    3. Yes all sponsors have to be preapproved by the UFC and that stops fighters fully maximizing their external sponsorship deals. But they are allowed to conclude such deals and display those external endorsements on UFC television. John Cena cannot and does not display external endorsements on WWE Television because he is simply not allow to. If I'm wrong point me to an example.

    4. Their pay structure could certainly be better although its difficult to get a proper grasp on it when all reports are that all fighters recieve more than their base pay. How much more it needs to improve or can improve without the sport growing is tricky to judge - after all UFC is still in the process of using debt finance to fund its expansion. But you certainly do your argument no justice by peddling laughable untruths about how much the biggest stars make.

Does Cena have a fighting background that I was previously unaware of? I thought that he was just a bodybuilder before he started wrestling.

Id hardly call him a body-builder. He competed in a few amateur shows as a teen which by all accounts were insignificant as that was never his career path. He was a huge wrestling fan and always wanted to be a Pro Wrestler as a kid. He ended up in OVW and as they say the rest is history. That said he has no professional sports background to speak of.
