Conteh wasn`t a pressure fighter who would pin Hearns on the ropes the way Barkley did, everytime Conteh jabbed Hearns would have a chance to counter and Conteh`s jab wasn`t a power shot, Conteh didn`t throw enough right hands to benefit from being naturally stronger than Hearns, I feel it would a close jabbing contest one way or the other.

Hearns boxed Hill`s ears off but it would similar fighting Conteh in terms of how many jabs would be thrown.

I thought it came down to the last 2 or 3 rounds.

Hill wasn`t landing much and was only really throwing the jab.

It did. It wasn’t a schooling by any measure. Really showed just how difficult to outbox Hearns was, though. If you don’t have the secondary tools needed to disrupt him. Conteh had those, unfortunately.

Of course, if we’re taking this thread entirely literally and specifically ordering Conteh to fight with a broken hand and to train as if he was preparing for a fight with Yaqui Lopez and not Thomas Hearns, then sure. Maybe Hearns could win.

Hearns wins it easily:. This must be a British post. Some 1 defense wonder versus one of the best of all time, give us a break

A “1 defense wonder” who made 3 defenses and was a natural Lt. Heavyweight. Started his career as an undersized Heavy, in fact.

In against an all time great, yes, but one whose best days were 5+ years prior and 20+ pounds lower. Wasn’t even able to defend the crown he won at this weight one single time.

The question here is can Thomas Hearns take a good shot from a genuine light heavyweight like John Conteh with two healthy hands. Conteh never lost his title in the ring, it was stripped from him in May 1977, for refusing to defend his title against mandatory challenger Miguel Angel Cuello, of Argentina in Monte Carlo, Monaco. This was after Conteh's 3rd round TKO of Len Hutchins in March 1977. Hearns could not take Sugar Ray Leonard's assault in round 14 on Sept 16 1981, and he could not take Marvelous Marvin Hagler's either on April 15 1985, in round 3. John Conteh could hit with two good hands, Hearns also could not take Iran Barkley's assault either. In 1979 Conteh was clearly out boxing Matthew Saad Muhammad until the knockdowns in round 14.

He’d broken his right hand the fight before against Willie Taylor in a non title fight in the States, then broke it again when he crashed his Rolls Royce! It had been 14 months since the Taylor fight so the Lopez win all things considered was impressive.

A prime Conteh (as I've stated before, not a long period) KOs Hearns. As 175lbers, Conteh is better in most aspects.

Hearns is overrated as a 175lber IMO, especially H2H.
