We all know that in the formative years of John's career,he boxed at what would eventually be the Cruiser limit. Supposing he'd remained at that poundage during his prime ? Take that hypothetical incarnation and match him against the Cruiserweight Haye. A good fight,methinks.
I consider haye too good a boxer to pick against him in most matchups against people his size or smaller. I know plenty of you disagree and all that lot and I'm blinded by the flash and really he's very sloppy but we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Haye tko 9
Describing Haye as 'too good a boxer' is bad enough, but hen compared to Conteh, the most skilled fighter we've ever had, it's f'n ridiculous. Luf how much Conteh have you seen?
Ah you slightly misunderstood my post. I wasn't specifically referring to conteh in that bit. I was actually saying I am the one considering him too good and therefore I usually pick him in h2h matchups. Plenty mate he was awesome and I'm fairly in the camp of conteh>galindez. I just think haye is too big for conteh here.
Prime conteh wins by ud He would respect haye's power and box accordingly and if haye tires late conteh could maybe force a stoppage funny to say but at times conteh gets a little underrated
Your 1st realistic prediction since joining this site . I believe that Haye would have stopped him quicker , but I did not predict your prediction .
I'm saying that if Haye weighs in on the day Conteh sparks him with a Schmidtke-esque assault of right hands. Mock had Haye down FFS. Conteh's jab would be too much for Haye, who wasn't negative at cruiser. This ain't Fragomeni. Haye, of course, has a punchers chance. Conteh's chin was better, but not infallible. Haye is really a 210lb guy though. Not the fairest of matchups. What about Haye Vs Farr?
Well then it's not a fair fight. If Conteh was given 24 hours he'd likely make the modern super middleweight limit.
I agree on both points. I see Conteh outboxing Haye and winning a decision by about two/three points.
Conteh one of my favourites.Haye is not,though Id still like him to do well.I actually saw Conteh box live,and have seen Haye in the flesh.Im not trying to tell people anything they don't know,but theres a BIG disparity in size.In the couple of years before he won the title,the Ahumada fight,and a couple after,Id still back John.Think he'd have beat Bob Foster at the time he was chasing the fight.But for the other years,think Hayes size would definitely tell.
Likely depends on what versions we're talking about. Young 180-185 conteh(post early loss) or a 3-4 year into career one weighing in at about 182 or so vs cruiser Haye.....i think Haye gets picked apart, but he has a decent punchers chance in the early rounds, as he would have against most fighters conteh's size,due to his good early rounds athleticism and good speed.If he's not done something by about the 4th round to badly hurt and take the play away though, he just isn't skilled or busy enough to keep up that threat and his chances drop off. Too sloppy, low workrate\dodgy stamina, not fluid or educated enough in his punches.He'll fall back on one shot at a time and be unable to set things up once a top-boxer puncher settles into their groove and maps his style.Especially someone that hits hard enough to get the average 190-200 lb heavyweights respect.Haye does not have a good jaw at this weight. best bet for him is to try a quick ambush. If it's the buffed out, more experienced haye that had settled into being a 210 heavy and would know how to use his size advantage better then the early ambush chance goes up and probably extends well into the fight. Conteh would have to be very careful early and likely need to get Haye's respect quite soon with some hard punching.He would find it harder to just settle into that napoles'esque groove and methodically, smoothly chip away with counters as he liked to do. It wouldn't shock me to see him get hurt and finished off early, after looking the better boxer for a couple of rounds, but not being cautious enough.Or getting hurt and doing the sudden Duran phoneboothing thing that served him very well against 175'lb fighters, but it backfiring against a bigger man and getting caught.
