Don't want to sound biassed for a fellow Brit but I can't see how Toney can win this. Contehs left would be a nightmare for Toney.

As he showed vs Lopez, Conteh could pretty much win a fight fighting solo with the left. He was a classy fighter.:good

Toney, of course was good at slipping punches, but conteh, when Boxing was very Hair-trigger, the Jab and Double Jab would Keep James Occupied, and in between Conteh used plenty of Feints, so Toney would be expanding Energy covering Fakes and probes, When John started to let the attacks go they came very quickly, and inside John could be a very rough coustomer indeed, as many would attest, John also had great stamina in those 15 round days, so a high-speed 12 rounds would be no problem, James would quickly discover that this is no Wide-Arc Slow punching Barkley, - i dont think a Pace-rationer is going to beat a prime John Conteh.

Conteh beats Toney by an easy decision.James is out of his league against John here, and Conteh dealt with some of the best light heavies of his time.

A completely one-sided embarrassment. Conteh takes the decision.

Interesting how much the poll differs from the posts.

Conteh is the type of boxer who would be all wrong for Toney IMO.......

Conteh would have been the master here. Keeping his weight on his back foot as he often did, John would have parried the night away and kept James from landing many solid punches, all the while frustrating him with his skilled jabbing.
