I've never seen Conteh fight. What was his style like? This is going to sound weird, but how do you pronounce his name? It looks like "Con-Tay" but I never heard anyone actually say it, just read it a bunch of times.

You know me, if Eddie's heads on straight, with no weight issues he'd win tho a prime Conteh's box/punch style would make for a spirited and interesting scrap, providing John's keeps his head-butting to a minimum ;)

Hey Zip, check out the front cover of Paul McCartney's "Band on the Run" album. Conteh is one of the people shown on the cover...

Prime for prime I think Conteh would have won fairly easily, although Gregory/Muhammad would have had his moments. Conteh wasn't in his prime very long though. Injuries and stupidity wrecked his career.

If Eddie falls into his old habit of not letting his hands go, then the resouceful Conteh would win a decision easily, but if the other Eddie showed up, the one who so masterfully took Marvin Johnson apart, or the one who destroyed Lotte Mwale, then the fight would belong to Mustafa. Two excellent fighters, but Eddie Mustafa Muhammad had the potential to be much more.

I don't know a lot about Conteh. I am getting ready to order some DVD's.
Could someone recomend a Coneth fight or two where John was at his best?

The one with Jorge Ahumada is good a gruelling tough fight.

Conteh was a slightly better overall boxerpuncher than Gregory.Eddie even in his best performances liked to fight at his own pace and keep things slow so he could wait for countering openings.

John had better workrate and could mix things up more, he'd box and move then slip inside and rough you up like Duran and he had no issues with being forced out of his comfort zone.Very very dirty fighter.

I see Eddie waiting too long with his counterpunching and not throwing enough punches.Conteh was the only fighter from that era that matched him technically and had a far more ruthless "win at all costs" mindset. He'd take a close decision after a great chessmatch.

I know there are a lot of Gregory fans who consider him a true waste of all-time great potential and rightfully so but conteh was and still is the best pure technician at this weight since Harold Johnson in my eyes.

This is a tough call, Conteh wasted his peak years and Muhammad never really set the world on fire. If the fight's in London Conteh wins, in the States then Muhammad is favourite. Conteh was very much a mood fighter who didn't always turn up.

It's nice to see both these guys getting some good respect, if both fully fulfilled their potential they would have been anything.
