It was one of my first round matchups. Haven't tallied it up but think Conteh was being picked more due to better ring generalship. Mustafa was damn good though, and what a match it would be
Contehs Aggression would i think swing it, Eddie was an excellant boxer, and good puncher, but he was a Steady-Eddie seeminingly looking for some perfect opening before letting his major shots go, Conteh on the other hand could box like a dream, but had a spite and venom to his work, He made openings happen. I think perhaps a bit of Rough-stuff by Conteh, perhaps some of his famed careless headwork, would leave Eddie in his Shell somewhat, and complaing post fight about deemed unfairnesses, He let Briscoe climb all over him at Middle, He let James Scott do the same at Lt Heavy (admittedly in the intimidating confines of Rahway !) I can help but feel that Conteh also, after Holding Eddie at the skillful boxing, then turns up the tempo to a "Who wants it most" level, i think on the run in that is proved to be Conteh. ( Certainly if the fight is in England Eddie may swear never to visit these shores again !)
Good post. I think very highly of EMM but I agree that Conteh had the tools and intangibles to take EMM out of his comfort zone. Backing that theory up with Briscoe and Scott convinced me.
I;ll echo what I said in your 1st round matchup fleaman...Conteh by decision, for the same reason you mentioned, and also because he'd let his hands go more than the brilliant at times Mustafa.
