The Yaqui Lopez fight must be very close,he fought completely one handed that night. To beat an opponent of that quality in those circumstances says a lot about how good Conteh was.

I think it's hard to pinpoint a "best" Conteh performance, as I don't think he ever really fulfilled all his potential in any one fight. Early in his career, Conteh was very tough and aggressive, but I didn't think was as technically/defensively proficient as he would be later one. I think his skills improved as his career went on, but he fought with a bad right hand for some time, and toward the end his chin and stamina became suspect.

The George Francis biography has a lot of interesting points about Conteh and makes for good reading.

I agree, clearly his best effort. I'm sure most on board here respect Galindez and Conte but so many bring up their efforts AFTER their prime, a prime in which neither were allowed to fight each other. IMO, after stripping Foster, Conte (WBC) got the tougher opponent in the run-off, Victor (WBA) got Huchings, a class boxer/puncher but just got worn down.

Ahumada is just another of those talents who could have been champ in many eras.

One scrap I've always thought about was a pvp matchup of Jorge & Yaqui.
Now that one would have been a ringsider's dream IMO...
