I was wondering, how it is that John David Jackson was rated in The Ring's top-10 going into the Bernard Hopkins bout? The Castro loss happened in 1994 and then he proceeded to beat no one of note until reaching Hopkins, and even suffered a defeat at the hands of a 9-6 journeyman named Abdullah Ramadan right before it. I have no sources on the Ramadan fight itself. Was it a controversial decision?

You know he was a very skilled boxer-really fast and had a couple of good wins.

More importantly, he held the pads for me about that time.

Jackson was way past it when he fought Hopkins. I guess he was still rated because of his name and, If I remember correctly, the division was pretty weak at the time. Also, Don King may have bought his ranking. I think he was alligned with King then.

I always thought John David Jackson was best at 154 lbs in the late '80s. He was kind of avoided then. He schooled Davey Moore in 1987.
