Looks like Kovalev is the only guy, who is willing to fight Ward. I think its very dangerous for Andre to wait for GGG, because Gennady has two big cash cows in his division, and other champions like Quillin and Taylor. SOG already wasted 1 year, and waiting for Gennady is a big risk. Fight some bum at 175 and take a fight with Sergey, who impressed everyone after his last performance.

    Whats your opinion?

As long as Ward doesn't manage to clear his courtroom affairs no promoter will touch him, he should desperately try to get in the ring again, irrelevant against whom...

Ward schools Kovalev easy, he's not a 50 year old grandpa.

I don't think Ward can beat Kovalev, at least not on the outside. Hopkins is a better boxer than Kovalev on the outside. In fact I will go as far to say that Hopkins is the best guy on the outside in boxing today. Hopkins is one of the best boxers of all time. He's a 15 round fighter if not 20 rounds.

Anyway, Ward iis simply not as elusive as Hopkins on the outsied. Maybe Ward can beat Kovalev on the inside, but I doubt it.

Ward doesn't hit as hard as BHop and isn't even close to taking the same type of shots on the chin that BHop did.
I don't know how Ward would keep Kovalev honest.

It'd be an interesting fight if Ward moves up. I'd favour Ward 60-40, Kovalev isn't going to outbox him but he does have a very real chance of a stoppage IMO.

Makes you assume Kovalev wouldn't be able to outbox Ward? We just saw Kovalev outbox the best pure boxer, with the best defense in the sport. That's right, nobody, not Floyd, not Ward, not anybody in boxing today is as good as Hopkins on the outside, especially given :eek:pkins physical assets, IE being 50 years old! But what aboput Floyd? What about Floyd and his fidgety, wasteful, required the ref to intervene style? Granted, floyd may have been rusty in his last outing, he still can't compare with Hopkins, walk around the park style.

Anyway, both Kovalev's power and amateur pedigree allowed him to beat Hopkins. Ward is younger and fresher, so perhaps he would be willing to take more risks and potentially expose himself to more punishment in attempting to walk Kovalev around the ring, but my guess is that Ward would be soundly defeated.

Instead, Ward should opt to smother the bigger puncher, and perhaps better boxer by utilizing his strength and excellent inside fighting ability, but even then, Kovalev may be the bigger and stronger man, which would make it a very hard task. It may just be a case where a great big man beats a great small man. Only if Ward is truly great, can he beat Kovalev.

I hope this fight happens next year around fall. I want Ward to take on a tune up at 175, the pursue Kovalev. Forget about Golovkin, odds of that fight happening are pretty slim since Golovkin has options.

While Kovalev is a good fighter who I like to watch fight and I also think he is a good fighter for the sport, the only chance I give him against Ward is if he happens to land a shot that would hurt him. There were moments in the fight against Hopkins (though few and far in between) where Bernard was landing crisps counters and even hurt Sergey with a nice left hook (not the neck hit in the 12th round).

Ward is league above Hopkins in athleticism and his inside clinch game is second to none (maybe only to Floyd). The athleticism in my opinion will have Sergey really confused and would fatigue him. Again, I am a fan of Sergey, but I can actrually see Ward getting a corer or referree stppage if he fought Sergey, he gets hit a bit much to deal with Andre.

Ward will not fight GGG or Kovalev, in my opinion he would get badly roughed up if he engaged with either, and lose a wide UD (like BHOP) if he just wanted to survive.
