Disappointed how though...as in, you wanted to see him fight on despite him losing his hunger and dedication?

That's a shame. He was an exciting fighter. Hope he has a good life outside of boxing.

Well then there's more than just you who are incorrect. I find it bizarre that you would lose respect for someone getting out at the right time, does this mean your respect for fighters like Roy Jones has grown over the years? It reeks of a bit of selfishness on your part to be honest.

On one hand, good for him. Good for knowing when to leave the game and doing it on his own terms with a $100K payday on the table.

I would have loved to have seen Lee-Duddy. I thought it was going to be a fun fight. But, if he has already lost the fire, then, chances are it wasn't going to be a great performance from him.

Hopefully he has invested wisely and stashed away some of the money he made.

I just wonder if there's something more into it, with a fight all but signed for good money there's usually an issue when such turnaround happens. I hope everything's cool and he has a solid bank account so he wouldn't come back for the cash.

Exactly...when I was boxing, I lost motivation and the love for the sport, but carried on for an extra year or 2 than I should have. I get exactly what Duddy is saying when he states going to the gym becomes like a chore.

Im the one the guys who always defended him when every single one the forums was shitting on him from great heights because of his losses.

Im fan of John Duddy i went out of my way to watch him fight and loved both fights i went to.

I was really looking forward to this more than any other for a long time. Im just a little annoyed that he signed to fight then a week later retired.

Best of luck John in the future, always fun to watch and was always impressed with your natural toughness.

I feel sorry for Lee though. Getting a big fight on HBO against a big name and getting the rug pulled from under him. I hope he gets a good opponent to fight.

Yep, it's admirable I think. He's essentially turned down a heap of money because he's been honest with himself, he hasn't got the desire and hunger for it anymore. Fair play to him for making such a sensible decision.

Thought this Lee-Duddy was gonna be an awesome battle to the finish...

Shout out to John, happy retirement.

The WBO belt almost seems like a logical target for Lee if he is to fight exclusively on HBO. While Lee takes on top 15 WBO rated folks like Guerrero (#2), JCC Jr (#4), Jacobs (#8 ) or Barker (#13), Pirog has a tune-up in Russia. The winner gets involved in an eliminator, Pirog fights an average guy on some undercard, and both winners square off on an HBO PPV late in the year / early 2012.

Game's about to begin... Go Habs Go. :yep

I hope he made enough money for a comfortable life because the money on the table for the Lee fight was good. I also dont understand why he signed for a fight then retires a week later....

However people can get seriously hurt in there and John more than earned his stripes in the bravery stakes. Hopefully he has a good life and is happy with his decision. best of luck to him

Duddy showed a lot of respect to his paying fans by walking away instead of showing up half assed just to collect a check. Good for him.

Pity. I actually thought he had a chance against Lee.
