Why are we talking about Andy Lee likes he's somebody? He got beat by Brian ****ing Vera, who Duddy and JCC Jr. would certainly whip. Lee's nothing. Duddy could have beaten Lee. He must just have zero desire left, and you have to really want it to make it thru a hard camp.
Campas WON that fight. Goddamn I was so pissed watching that 1. Duddy got the brawl of his life 2. The Tommy Gallagher ringside said he didnt think Duddy would ever be the same after 3. I had Duddy losing by 2 rounds, CLEAR
I have to respect this statement though. You fight till the fire is gone, and you fight no more "I started watching my father train in the gym when I was five years old. I began fighting competitively at age 10. For more than 20 years, I loved being a boxer. I still feel that it's an enormous honor to be a boxer. But I don't love it anymore. I no longer have the enthusiasm and willingness to make the sacrifices that are necessary to honor the craft of prizefighting. I used to love going to the gym. Now it's a chore. I wish I still had the hunger, but I don't. The fire has burned out. And I know myself well enough to know that it won't return."
Lee was also ahead on points and threw the last punch of the fight. I don't want to sound like a moaner but I thought the stoppage was a bit premature but unfortunatley these things are objective and I respect the ref's opinion but I don't necessarily agree with it. Watch the fight on youtube and see what you think. I'd be satisified that Lee would win a re-match
I saw the fight when it happened. You can argue about the stoppage, but it doesn't really matter. If Lee really was what some people thought he was it should never have been the war it became. Quality prospects should just rain bombs on Vera, and not eat much in return. Lee is an ENTERTAINING fighter, but I don't think much of his chances when he steps up, and like I said I think Duddy would have been too much for him. Duddy would also have a firefight with a guy like Vera, but he would win it. So far as JCC goes, I think he would just handle Vera with ease. People are sleeping on JCC Jr. a little bit, kid's starting to show some serious skills.
Gotta love the guys honesty...he didnt accomplish what he wanted to do in boxing. I've watched just about every Duddy fight, as they replay his fights on St. Patricks day here, he has always looked GODAWFUL in every single fight, but i respect this guy's heart.
By your logic, you ought to have even MORE respect for Duddy. Because he is quitting on principle despite NEEDING the money. Lesser men would take the dough and take the dive.
At least he's admitting he doesn't care anymore, too many fighters keep on chugging even after they clearly don't care.
if he doesnt have the hunger he wouldnt train properly and would get a thorough smashing in the ring with his whole country watching just for money, duddy isnt the kind of guy to do that.
