I was at the garden tonight. The main event was a little bit of a bore but the Duddy fight was amazing. I like Duddy and hopefully some of the posters here can catch this fight because he definately isn't ready for Pavlik. His face was a bloody mess. He was clocked almost at will. I think tonight was his first fight with Don Turner so Im sure hel improve but man did he get hit. The positive I guess is that hes a tough as can be. Goes to the body nicely and after the main event tonight I guess the best part is hes one of the most exciting fighters today. Anyone else there tonight or anyone else catch the fight somehow?
Ya I saw it, I might watch it again. Duddy took a beating from an average fighter and it would actually be unsafe for him to fight Kelly but I think he realized that.
that was a robbery.... the other guy was landing flush punches at will and should have won the fight.
It was without a doubt the best fight I saw tonight. easily better than the Klitschko or Joe Greene fights. I've seen both fighters fight a bunch of times, and neither were known for boring fights, so I expected a good fight, but thought it would be more one sided in Duddys favour. He definitely needs a few more fights before taking on any of the top MW's, let alone Pavlik. Always entertaining though.
I didn't see it but I read he outboxed Howard Eastman in his last fight - off night maybe? Those right hands couldn't miss though, and that grissly cut might take months to heal.. Give KP a miss for now.
Duddy seems to have lost some of the explosive power he showed earlier in his career. I realize he is fighting better fighters now but he fought some tough, undefeated fighters early on and would starch them with one punch. This guy seemed to hit much harder than Duddy. Could Duddy have peaked around age 25? He needs to stay away from Kelly and try to make as much money as he can fighting in front of his Irish crowds against top 20 type guys. Hire a good accountant and invest wisely. He'll never be champ.
I watched the fight and scored it as follows RD1: 10-9 Smichet RD2: 10-10 Even RD3: 10-10 Even RD4: 10-9 Smichet RD5: 10-10 Even RD6: 10-9 Duddy RD7: 10-10 Even RD8: 10-10 Even RD9: 10-9 Duddy RD10: 10-9 Duddy 98-97 Duddy Smichet could have taken rounds 2 and 3 but I think Duddy did just enough to not loose the rounds, same goes in rounds 7 and 8 both could have gone to Duddy but Smichet did just enough to not loose them IMO. I think 95-95 by one judge was an accurate reading of the fight, 98-92 is crazy.
if duddy wasnt supposed to win they would have stopped the fight because the cut over his right eye was huge, i thought the fight was close but always knew they woluld give it to duddy, he is very exciting but he needs to get the paydays now before he gets beaten or gets brain damage
I remember reading somewhere that HBO was considering at one time including the Duddy fight to amke it a double header. Too bad it didn't happen because it sounded exciting and the few clips HBO aired were gruesome.
duddy seriously gets knocked out against abraham, he fights like some character of a boxing movie that takes place in the 40s. brave, but no guard and very easy to hit.
