john fewkes vs martin gethin

I thought about going to this but I am working Tommorow and would not get home till about 3am. Good card. Shame about the fight falling, just hope Rendall impresses.

Are you sure Fewkes v Gethin is actually off?

According to BBN Fewkes didn't make the weight but the fight will still take place with only Gethin able to claim the English Title if he wins.

 

Would have been a real blow to both if the fight had been called off altogether at this stage.

Not quite sure whats happening with Fewkes at the moment - he pulled out of the Murray fight at short notice, apparently turned down a fight with Khan and now hasn't made weight????

Seems he is getting the opportunities but not taking them for one reason or another. Shame as I'd like to see him make progress.

 

Well although Fewkes can't win the Title tonight he still needs to concentrate on getting the win. Losing his unbeaten record in these circumstances would be yet another set back.

Think the figure of £30,000-£40,000 was suggested for the Khan fight. Was different reasons given by Fewkes camp as to why the fight was turned down - my recollection was that Frank Maloney said it was a career decision and his trainer Glyn Rhodes gave monetary reasons.

Interesting that Khan suggested Fewkes wouldn't be able to make the weight for the Sept 6th date. Recall this being dismissed by his team at the time on the basis that if he could make it for the Gethin fight on Sept 5th they were sure he could the day after....

 

I like Fewkes and have gone to see him fight a few times. No idea what is up with the kid but his career has stalled from the slow pace it was going at. Not sure how he will do up a weight but it definetly won't affect his power.

 

Hopefully Fewkes will learn and bounce back from this loss.

I hope so. Even though he lacks power he is entertaining to watch. Him vs Gary Reid was a very goode laugh.
