ATG obviously- he has the title of being the first Black man to challenge a black HW champion. A stellar record of 100 wins 11 losses (1 by KO) 5 Draws-(Recorded) I haven't paid much mind to LHW-HW a ton so he is new turf for me. I would love to hear some imput. @George Crowcroft anything from you, Or are you MIA still?
An underrated fighter in my opinion. An excellent record and he had a good resume against the heavies of the time (Louis excepted). I think he has to rank amongst the best 175lber’s of all time. I’m interested to see the opinions of the more learned posters on here of him.
An excellent LHW. Didn't do as well as heavyweight as similarly good LHWs, though he probably deserved the decision against Braddock. Among his wins Tiger Jack Fox is somewhat forgotten, but was very highly regarded
Afraid to say I'd not heard of him until I started lookin in to Joe Louis s title challengers. I mean, this was years ago but even know he's a bit of a mystery man really. But good of Joe to Ko him fast so he didn't have to prolong the agony, for his old buddy.
I haven’t seen much footage of him but I agree that his resume is stellar at least on paper. He compiled like 110 fights by the time he was maybe 24-25 ?
anything I ever read compliments him as a consistently sound and controlled boxer. I don't know if he ever got any bad press. Did he?
