    A very entertaining battle for the British and Commonwealth
    Heavyweight titles.

    Paul Sykes for people that don't know has a documentary, if you haven't seen it please do. I will post it up if you want?.

    Anyways this was a tough fight, He was 6-1-1 going in against Gardener who was 29-1-0.

    That interview was class, saying he'd be in to see the little boys in hospital after one's operation. Nice to see fighters even in heat of moment can focus on others who aren't even family.

    Used to travel to work with a lad whod been in the same prison.At the time a lot of people were saying Sykes would win.Saw a couple of his fights and he looked quite handy.The lad pointed out that all the years of prison diet wouldnt have done him any good,also an ex pro who knew them both said Gardner would win,though Sykes on a roll.I think he had a lot of what it took to be better but the criminal lifestyle let him down.A shame all round.

    The Gardener-Sykes fight was a good old tear up, the only Gardener fight Id seen before was him vs Dokes, one of the best knockouts Ive ever seen.

    The Sykes documentary was awesome, so many funny quotes :lol:

    He was an alcoholic so drinking that prison brew was a steady part of his diet. Didn't he get battered a few times in prison?

    My dad's telling me Gardener had a bit of a naughty past himself although said may not 100% true. Rumors etc..

    Said Gardener was a good fighter, would win a European title.

    Your Dad right,Gardner a decent attacking fighter,always fit which probably one of the things that made the difference here.Not a really big heavyweight,though.Came unstuck against Michael Dokes.A bad match as Dokes a bit special at the time,and bigger.

    Sykes was tapped in the head, total nutjob and a bully from most accounts!

    He was meant to fight Lenny McLean at one point in an unlicensed bout but one of them pulled out with an injury. Sykes would have leathered him inside the ring (excuse the pun) in my opinion.
