Even if I have got it wrong, and your interpretation of the film is more or less right, it still isn't enough to prove what you are claiming.

The Corbett Fitzsimons fight was for 25 rounds right? Todays fights are 12 rounds. You would fight differently and pace yourself for a longer fight would you? I mean we can not really judge the old timers even with films, because it is almost other sport.

I would agree, though it is a complex argument.

I actually think that Corbett would have done better, with shorter fights.

Yeah in a 12 round fight, Corbett would of still been champ after the Fitzsimons fight. Maybe even regain the title against Jeff down the road. Who knows.

Finally a fair match for Wilder. Someone with equal skill set.

Mechanical engineering and using your fists to hit another human being don’t exactly follow the same trajectory of improvement.

I think when they stopped holding their hands like they were doing dumbbell curls, it was probably a real eye-opener.

    Palms facing up, John L.

Remember, palms up. Back straight. Chin up.

    Clearly, I was joking.

Here is John L. Sullivan throwing punches. Truly a marvel. He was no ballpoint pen, but, still, a marvel.

He was 51 years old in this clip. Ready for that old timer Mike Tyson, who is 54 right now.

This is just another in the endless 'dump on Wilder' threads. Same thread, different name.

Sullivan lived a hard life, he was closer to 70 than 51 on this clip in terms of actual condition.

No, he was 51. Every professional fighter lives a hard life. Mike Tyson lived a hard life.

Hard lives don't make you throw punches like that, either. (LOL)

Sullivan held his hands just like he did in the pictures, he did the overexaggerated "flinch" moves that teenage brothers do to each other.

Sullivan couldn't figure out how to even hit a speed bag once it moved. Yes, he was a real "marvel."

Sullivan kept his left hand extended and in the wrong postion to strike, which left him open for the right (which I'm sure Wilder might throw LOL). Wilder is nine inches taller than Sullivan was. I doubt Sullivan fought many guys who were 6'7" and threw straight right missiles.

Wilder's head would've sat about a foot higher than that speedbag John L. couldn't hit ... with bombs headed John L's way.

Wilder destroys him. This is just another dump on Wilder thread. I get tired of posting in them. Same guys. Some insults. I don't know why people can't just converse about Wilder without getting stupid. John L. Sullivan brings ZERO to the table to bother Wilder. People on this board just have a bug up their butts about that guy and it makes no sense at all.

I reject the premise that you can tell anything meaningful about Sullivan in his prime from this footage.

Sullivan was lucky to be alive at 51 given the scale of his drink problem.

Didn't Sullivan lose the used of his right hand in later life?
