I cant see this happening. One possibility is that there is a major class difference. Sullivan wasnt that good, his opposition was that bad. Techniques have evolved. If this is the case, Bowe wins both because he outclasses him. If not then you have to say that Bowe has world class power, chin, speed and reach. Like a straight hitting mike tyson, it seems to me. Both fighters were Queensberry fighters and could fight. Believe me, no one wants to meet a prime Bowe in the street (or any other champ for that matter). In a fight to the finish, i lean to Bowe. He has so much unbelievable heart and chin when in his prime, unless John L knocks him down and out early. This is a possibility given his power, but unlikely. Sullivan was a far more dominant champ than Bowe ever was or could have been. His best hope is that he is a class above Bowe and he KOs him. If that is true, then it happens in both types of fights. So that leaves us with the remaining question, if they are very, very close in abillity. In a street fight, i expect bowe to wear out sullivan, and take the win. In Queensbury, I think that Bowe takes heaps of punishment but finishes 15 rounds on his feet, behind on points.
I know one thing for sure, if we could actually have this prize fight, it would sure answer a lot of questions! Personally, I suspect Sullivan, win, lose, or draw, would surprise people who write him off as a primitive, no talent fighter, who couldn't compete at the world class level in the modern era.
The amount of ignorance on display here astounds me. some posters here really are the ultimate proof of the saying, the wider the mind the broader the generalisation.
Yes, and your earlier quote of "I really don't know" sums you up perfectly. Bowe KO 1. What a farcical comparison.
You are dealing with 80% who don't have a clue of what they are talking about .. the strength of this forum is it's activity ... they have no clue Sullivan was a physical marvel of natural strength, exceptional hand speed and crunching one punch power .. this particular thread is over the top for many reasons but those who discount Sullivan as a local strong man of his day are simply clueless ..
HeGrant.... In comparison to modern men John L. is no more than a 'tough man comp' winner. Any dream of him being capable of defending himself against the likes of Bowe is utterly ridiclous.
Gentlemen, please! ...I am surrounded by hoopleheads! Bowe was a sucker for the feint! Sullivan's feinting on footage alone as an elderly gent ensures in my mind a kayo victory against the big blunderbuss known as Big Daddy. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIfcYJpUig0[/ame]
