I've always understood that John L. Sullivan had no children, but I recently acquired a number of bound volumes of The New York Clipper and just today came across the following in an article titled 'The Ring' in the November 6, 1886 issue on page 537: "John L. Jr. Dead - A dispatch from Providence, R.I., states that John L. Sullivan Jr., the infant son of the champion pugilist, died on Oct. 28, of diphtheria, at his mother's home in North Centreville, ten miles from Providence. The attending physician states that Mrs. Sullivan was with the child throughout his illness, and not in Milwaukee, as had been reported." Anybody else ever come across this and research this at all to find out if there was any truth to this at all? I've been looking in some of my Sullivan related books and haven't been able to find any mention of this.
Answered at CBZ already, but will repeat here. See April 13, 1884 newspapers. For example, http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/chicago...e&desc=JOHN+L.+SULLIVAN+A+FATHER&pqatl=google
Yes, I finished a biography about Billy Miske a few months ago. I have an agent who is trying to find a publisher for it. I'm going to co-author a biography on Tony Zale next with one of his nephews.
