It's a very very good sign that deficiencies in Pro Boxing is being presently discussed on the US senate floor. Hope legislations regarding boxing will soon be passed.
McCain was part of the Senate committee that investigated corruption in boxing during the early 90s. The Senate's document "Corruption in Professional Boxing 1993" is online and well worth a read. Arum, King, sanctioning bodies, judges, refs, various well known fighters; they were all at it back then. The outcry following the James Toney vs Dave Tiberi robbery promted the investigation.
Where does the boundary line cross between Pac envy and hatred for all Pinoys, whom your fellow *****s refer to as "widescreen vision dogeaters"? :think
More government regulatory commissions probably wont help but maybe if the feds stepped in and made a clear formula that allows the most deserving fighter get his title shot then promoters wouldn't be so powerful. HBO should let boxers fight under their own promotional companies.
I must have missed that part. All I heard was McCain echoing the words of Arum (who's probably a large campaign contributor) and the HBO crew. What specific words, from McCain himself, are you referring to?
Well McCain's partner in this bill is Democrat Senator Harry Reid, who won't be endorsing Sarah Palin.
