Mugabe was never really a Middleweight. He was an absolutely terrifying Light Middle. He ended up fighting Marvin Hagler because Emmanuel Steward wouldn't let Tommy Hearns near him. Having said that, he gave Hagler one of the hardest nights of his whole career and I think that fight took a lot out of Marvin. Watson at his best was a beautiful Boxer, reminiscent in a way of John Conteh. He had the full range of skills, carried a whack and could have it if he needed to as well. Looking back on the Hagler fight, Mugabi was incredible for 8 rounds. He battered Hagler and you couldn't see any way that Marvin could get out of trouble but from the 9th Mugabi started to blow up, understandably as this was his first fight at Middleweight. I'm a big fan of Watson but I just can't see him being able to survive those first 8 rounds the way Hagler did, if only just. I'll take Mugabi in the 7th or 8th with a very bruised Watson saved by the Ref.
As previously stated, Watson was a beautiful boxer, technically near perfect, had all the moves. Mugabi was as strong as an Ox, rarely took a backward step as l recall. Watson beat a similar styled man, big punching Nigel Benn and also Chris Eubank, 2 great wins. I take Watson to beat Mugabi on points in an intriguing battle.
