Is Mugabi underrated on this forum? Some are even suggesting that Roy Jones could have beat Mugabi by his second pro fight in `89! I feel Mugabi`s combo`s on this highlight reel are better than any combo`s thrown by guys that Roy beat including Reggie Johnson. haNZAgod This content is protected
I know what you're saying. Kind of inbetween with Gman. He was definitely a front runner with a leaky defense but he had so much speed and power while being technically sound.
Mugabi was great fun to watch on NBC Sportsworld back in the day. He was very carefully matched by Duff though, fighting worn and frayed guys like Parker, Green, Fletcher, etc. to build his resume against name opponets, but he won, and won spectacularly. He did what they wanted him to do against those guys, so there was some reasonable expectation that he might make the next jump. Unfortunately for him, that "next jump" was Hagler. Marvin was worn himself and looked bad, looping a lot of his shots and being off balance a lot of the time, but he stopped Mugabi as was expected. He took more punishment than many thought he would have or should have though, so it perpetuated the Mugabi myth a little. In short, he was very powerful, pretty quick really, and awkward in a good way but very limited in terms of skills that would help him or intangibles. Plus, from what I have read, he liked beer. A lot.
