It's an old debate I know but sometimes you gotta put your feelings down on paper y'know? And the 'rumour' I talk about aint just on here it's everywhere.

    Murray must leave Hennessy

    By Shaun Brown

There is a thin rumour going round that unbeaten lightweight John Murray (30-0) has signed a three-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Of note, there is no evidence to back this up such are internet rumours but 2011 has to be the year that the popular Mancunian breaks free of his current promoter Mick Hennessy.
The 25-year old has had only two fights this year and there are no signs to suggest that he will be out by the end of 2010. Frustration at inactivity has been something that has blighted some of his interviews with the media, which is completely understandable. Here is a fresh, exciting, potential world champion that is currently being wasted. I’m not interested in the ins and outs of why not’s and reasons as to why he is not making his mark on the world stage. Boxing’s global audience needs to be introduced to this fighter. He has the style to please the American fight fans as well as his growing fan base in Britain.

'Dying on the vine' is an expression that springs to mind when I think of John Murray although he still has a good number of years ahead of him at present, what is he? 25-26?

25 with 30 fights behind him. You wonder if and when he gets a world title crack how long he'll be at his prime? That's a lot of fights for a 25-year old these days.

he's talanted and underrated but he needs to stop fighting bums. i heard gavin rees wants to fight him. he's another domestic fighter with a padded record.

He has to leave. I used to like Mick but the guy has failed badly. He isn't even getting him on the undercards of Froch and Murray is a legit fighter.

Why put him on the undercard of Froch when he can sell out leisure centers in Wigan?!

If I were him I'd be begging Frank Warren to take me on.

John Murray to me is a guy to throw into the mix at the deep end. The reasoning is simple, he's a sturdy guy, and there isn't a huge huge scope for improvement that I see in him. There are things he could do a lot better, he could be on his toes a little more, he could move his head, he could tighten that guard up so it isn't so easily punched through but I suspect they won't until he's beaten anyway. But at the end of the day he's not a super talented kind of guy, he's a grafter that relies on strength and body shots.

It's also evident he's not that popular, he doesn't have a huge fanbase so its not as if there is a bandwagon to keep rolling here. The bandwagon got stuck in a ditch 5 miles ago.

I'd throw him in with Soto. I think he'll come up quite a bit short but he only has to not disgrace himself and get his name out there to be improving on where he is now.

his biggest issue is he has no footwork, and hes stopped domestic level opponents on accumulation, so his power may become diluted at higher level, i'd enjoy to see him in with rios but i'm quite sure he'll come unstruck against the cocky little ******* he'll likely end up being badly hurt and stopped due to that porous defence of his

Agreed, his footwork is beyond poor. He walks as if he's strolling down the park walking his dog. I'd like to see a bit of life in him. He must realize when he stops fighting Euro's and domestic stiffs that they are not going to be there for him.
