I think he should never have been put in that fight to start with. After losing to Mitchell at European level? he should have been rebuilding and going back to the drawing board, not going in with a world champion. His management have a lot to answer for as IMO they cashed him out.

Saying that, when all is said and done his CV will say European champ and world title contender. Whilst I liked him a lot as a fighter, My gut feeling is he was too limited to realistically be able to get any further.

No its not, you telling me John Murray never had limitations Billy? You will find those who are not genuine world champions have limitations, its not a slur its a fact. As I mentioned he was good to watch, good British/Euro level fighter but had limitations that never allowed him to be world class. No shame in that, just fact with 99% of boxers there not world class.

You still in touch with Ricky, Bill? Hope it all worked out amicably between you two, you shared some good times together.

I think the JohnMurray we seen was as good as he could have been. Lifestyle yes does make a difference but he didn't have the defence to mix it at world level.

I felt as if he didn't hit hard enough for the meat grinder style of boxing that he adopted. And of course his defensive was poor. I reckon he could have pipped his way up to another world title shot if it wasn't for the sickening beating he was shamefully allowed to take against Rios.

John was a good british/euro fighter. Loved watching him but he liked the ale too much. That was his weak link.
