he is a true warrior but for the sake of his health he really needs to start blocking uppercuts.

John's got a warrior's mentality i'm sure he's happy with the money, he can say he fought for a world title and gave his best.

Great effort by Murray painful to watch for his family I reckon but the guy fought at MSG on one of the biggest cards of the decade for a world title , whatever he got paid he earnt it the hard way and is already out on the **** in The Big Apple . Ledge . Nice one

John did himself proud, if some of our other boxers showed as showed as much grit an bravery, we would maybe be better respected in the States.
    Lads a ****in warrior.

people should look at this fight and learn a few thing:

Both murray and rios are aggressive seek and destroy fighters who break their opponents down with pressure and volume punches.

Difference is 1) Rios is actually strong and hits hard whereas Murray is an average puncher and isnt very strong.

    2) Rios is tougher and can absorb shots better without getting cut or bruised.

3)although they have identical styles, Rios shows you how to really fight like a pressure fighter. Rios actually has a defense! he blocks, parries and moves his head and uses a good jab! very simple style but one needs to be STRONG, have POWER, be TOUGH and have a GOOD DEFENSE.

another thing i have noticed about pressure fighters...

This style is much suited to fighters who are aging. theres this myth that the aggressive pressure style fighter like a tyson wears out quicker. i totally disagree. look at glen johnson...even tyson. its a very simple style to fight with if you have the above qualities and you shouldnt be getting hit more than any other style.

However::: one major quality is essential if you fight with immense pressure and thats DESIRE. which understandably erodes onas one ages. Apart from this there is no reason why this style is inferior to other styles (maybe not as versatile but simply gets the job done and age isnt a factor as much as desire of the fighter)

I think murray should campaign at euro level and earn a decent living and maybe one day challenge for a world title...but first he needs to learn to be a more versatile fighter

Jesus christ that is about as bad as I think I have ever seen someone post fight, I do rate him much more than I did before the fight. Without a doubt one of the bravest guys in the sport.

its ****ed up match making, i thought murray had a huge chance for the upset,as i dont view rios as anything special. TBH rios was fighting at 80% you could tell he was weight drained, and murray couldn't do **** about it, i remember in the 3rd or 4 round rios landed something on murray and murray looked hurt had rios come in at 100% this fight would have been over by the 4th. Murray should stick to fighting guys who aren't in the top 5 of the division

Murray is a warrior, fair play to him he showed a good chin and tremendous bravery. Murray-Atillon, make it happen!

  13. Maybe time to get a new trainer?

He needs to work on his defence. He also needs to learn how to fight on the back foot. His style has got him so far but it's not going to cut it at world level.

He is a fantastic fighter though. Always enjoy a John Murray fight.

Considering Murray has had the mitchell fight and a european title fight in 2011 he probably has earned considerably more than that overall
