I think thats a great fight to introduce him to the states. I also think murray would win, but I can't see what would be in it for Diaz at this stage.
What is the reasoning for John Murray winning this fight? It seems to be conceived wisdom that he would... John Murray would have to use his jab a damn sight more and give himself more room to beat Juan Diaz. Juan Diaz has a signifcant edge in volume over him in a toe to toe war, not to mention experience against proper world class fighters. John Murray would be showing him nothing new, and that Ukranian guy had his successes.
I think murray would comfortably beat Malignaggi (which would be another good introduction fight IMO) which I am using as a yard stick. I hate when people say because fighter a beat fighter b so on so on but in this case I think it works. Diaz has shown in his last few fights that he isn't up to it. Granted it was brave against Marquez but I really don't think he's good enough. And you know what, Murray might just be good enough!!!
Diaz would be fav. Murrays power isnt proven at the top level yet. Diaz has a decent chin though it maybe showing a few signs of cracking after being wobbled by Paulie. Diaz's volume and workrate and combinations would give Murrays problems. Altho i think Murrays body shots could upset Diaz - Id say Diaz on points
That's blind hope more than any reasoning. Murray has shown very little in his performances that suggests he's better than Juan Diaz. What's he do? He just walks around the ring until his opponent lets him throw punches. Granted he's impressive when his opponent allows him to get into his range but what if they don't. Okay against that Euro guy that just stands there and has zero movement but I think you'd be surprised at how badly somebody as average as Paulie would frustrate and outbox him with basic movement, basic ability to tie up, duck, pivot and get out of the way of Murray's predictable plodding attacks.
I think Diaz would maul him, unless we're speculating that Diaz is deteriorated even more than he showed against Marquez. Paulie had a decent style for beating Baby Bull, keep jabbing, keep moving, maintaining the distance, like a matador. Murray would be right in front of him going toe to toe, and I think would come off second best in that exchange.
Murray isn't going anywhere near world level for more than one fight. He's a one dimensional brawler who can't punch. He has a chin, that's about it. Diaz would win every round against him, IMO.
Really tough hard fight or John, Not impossible but he would start as an underdog for me, I like Murray and would prefer to see him fight a Malignaggi maybe or N'Dou??
