John Murray...

people fart and whinge about murray not fighting often...

...but didnt he pull out of the original mcallister date with a huge gash in his head?

 

Murray needs a new promotor, that seems really evident. Maloney would be great.

 

John Murray may be a hard worker, but that does not make him anything other than a slightly above average fighter. His wins over Meager and McAllister were preceded by a terrible gimme against a 4-8 fighter in Al Hamidi, Terry O'Connor should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.

Murrays "defining" fights are also questionable...a relatively inactive Meager looked absolutely awful and retired after the fight, and McAllister was causing Murray real problems and would have done better for himself if he hadn't been ****ing about so much, hands down, gurning. The long and short of it is that John Murray is a half decent fighter but is too inconsistant to go beyond domestic level.

 

His skills are underrated. For instance look athow he got McAllister to drop his guard, driving straight rights into the midsection then coming up with the hooks to the head.

Khan has got all the build up, all the publicity, and yet still his fights are almost all unsatisfying. Khan got world rated from beating Earl and St Clair. Tell me Murray couldn't do the same thing.

 

He looked anything but "above average" vs Meager. It was an outstanding domination and Meager didn't look shot in his fight in Doncaster, a fight or 2 before the Murray fight. Meager retired cos he fought Murray on the inside and got a beating for it.

Look how Khan struggles vs an absolutely shot blown up slow but determined Michael Gomez.

Murray wore down a very quick pesky fighter in McAllister. If you care to look you may see that Murray had something to do with Lee dropping his hands. Check out Murray's methodical body attack, particularly the right to the body. McAllister was giving him priblems? Gee whizz. A boxer actually given problems during a FIGHT. Well, if you are given problems then you work out the problem and win the fight. Last I remembered, McAllister was all but broken in half in about round 7 or 8, from a left hook.

Murray-Hamidid wasn't a bad decision. You're passing off your opinion as an absolute truth/fact. After Fewkes pulled out and didn't know who he was fighting til the morning of the fight. Hamidi has spoiled many good fighters, Bhatia, Simpson, etc etc.

Murray has great potential, but why isn't he being kept busy, why isn't he being given the fights that will make him look good, the fights that will put him up the ladder.

 

Hamidi's actually very very good. Don't let the record fool you. he takes short notice fights for short notice money and ALWAYS gives the guy a good argument. Murray did quite well against him, I thought.

 

Murray is a decent domestic standard fighter but anyone at Euro level or the god like Khan would destroy him.

 

One thing about Murray. Let's say he gets the Thaxton fight. Thaxton is a lihgt welter who has come down. McAllister is a light welter who has come down. Even Hickman was a light welter. Fewkes, who ended up pulling out, another light welter. Murray has no problem taking on bigger men.

I reckon Murray can go British, European and win a version of a world title. If he was kept busy, smashing up aggressive guys like Castle, Johanesson, ie guys that would make him look good/made for him, everyone would be raving about him. I like Murray cos of his strength, patience, and the fact that he turns his shots over properly, gets the right weight behind the shots. He's much better than a lot of you give him credit for.

Khan has yet to really take on a solid real lightweight apart from the gy who blew him away. Yes he has been given fringe world class opponents (Prescott, St Clair, a blown up tiny old Barrera) and all of a sudden he's fighting a light welter for a world title. Amir could be in for a tough time, but no doubt his promoter will et him every possible advantage.

 

Good domestic fighter, dont see him going much further. I think Hennesey messed around trying to get a fight with Prescott and once that failed to materialise nothing else seemed to have been lined up. Cant see him fighting Jono, expect a walk in the park British defence in his hometown soon.

 

I'm not sure what it is with Murray and Hennessy. They don't seem like they match up so well. I think it's from when Hennessy promoted Meager. Thaxton beat Meager, and Thaxton did his best work under Hennessy. Hennessy seems to be close with the Ingles and Ingle-connected fighters. Hennessy gets a lot of stick, seems to be a lot of ill feeling to him in the business, so the ppl who are "with him" will get looked after better. So we can see why Thaxton is the priority. But this is possibly coming at the expense of Murray's development.

Murray has worn the Hatton logo in fights and this must be annoying for Hennessy. Murray's brother went to Hatton Promotions, and ppl reckon Murray will do that also. Manchester fighter, friends, and all. Hatton, just starting out as promoter, could do with a really good British champ. So if that's the case, maybe Mick H doesn't want to go the extra mile for a fighter who he thinks will leave him. I don't know. Murray doesn't seem at all happy about how his career is being handled - especially in terms of activity and title chances - as seen in Terry D's article a month or two back.

Murray is better than just domestic level. Whoever the promoter, I'm sure Murray will prove himself step by step. If he gets Thaxton, he'll win, and then it'll be Murray whom Hennessy puts in for the EBU title hopefully. & if JM wins that, then it's another move up the ladder.

Maybe there wasn't the money for a Prescott fight. Prescott's career is supposed to be blocked by Warren, anyway. A potentially big hassle.
