i think ive told this story on here before but the night before the Mitchell v murray fight i was on a train home from Manchester with John Murray's uncle and he was genuine and we even had a drink with a few of Murray's family/friends at the arena. but he said that he belived murray would get beat as in his words "thinks he's the new man about manchester..as he's british champ" when questioned on this he said he's out all the tme with his posse getting vip at bars and clubs and not fully concentration on his training a reason why him and gallagher split briefly maybe!!!
it is a shame but ive always though his style would cause him more problems than he gives other fighters he gets hit far too much to go to world level and be a fully fledged world champ.
Shame, reached his level, he could be a good Euro champ and continue to make a few bob, unless he is retiring.
everyone loved murray on his way up no complaints over his style then, typical of this sight to give negative posts when a fighter on there way down!
no ones giving him stick. Just stating facts. I dont think anyone who knows the game really thought hed go past euro level. With his fighting style you need to be knocking mother ****ers out when you approach world level. He wasnt. This is why i believe cleverly or eubank jr wont go to far. A good prospect , in my opinion , needs to be knocking people out. NOT ALWAYS rule of thumb but generally most of the time.
yeah i agree wiv you totally i knew he would have been a european level fighter thats still a good achivement and as for his style he would never change as he isn really gifted as a boxer tough with plenty of heart i was just trying to get the point across that all the experts on here know how to kick a man when hes down:good
Hasn't he had trouble making LW for years? His main problem is that he fights like somebody who has KO power. Unfortunately he doesn't and takes more punishment than he is able to hand out.
That's why he's on the gear :deal Joking aside, it all depends on his ambition: LW = very weak at world level but extremely strong at domestic and European level. LWW = very weak at domestic and European level but extremely strong at world level. If he accepts that he's not world class he should move up as he can pick up titles there. If he feels he still can be world class then he needs to stay at LW and take a manufactured route to a title.
I think Murray's style has changed over the last couple of years in fairness.... he's more flat footed than he once was and his guard despite being higher is more leaky. I never had him down as a potential world beater but he gets badly banged up in every fight, ones that he ought to be winning with relatively little danger. Look at other fighters in the gym and see their recent results and performances. They're all being beaten up even in victories, how many KO losses do they need to suffer before things change? A pub drunk could land regularly on a Gallagher fighter, they're all shocking in defence lately.
Agreed. Gallagher comes across as an arrogant ***** and is a liability. He seems to know one way of training/coaching and tries to make every fighter the same. Unfortunately, it hasn't gone unnoticed and opponents know exactly what to prepare for.
Hopefully after a good break he gets a couple of easy fights to make some technical improvements and regain his confidence, then one last run taking on the British lightweights. It's a great scene domestically, and Murray can be a big part of that. A fight with Harrison or maybe Crolla after a couple of tune ups would be interesting.
Its taken a liitle while for me to notice this but I think your right, he obviosuly gets his fighters in a great fighting condition but they are defensively weak, the focus may be on attack being the best form of defence, which is fine and probably true but you cant continually block your opponents punches with your face.
You're right. I think the two biggest weaknesses are the guard and the footwork. The guard is too high and too tight, I'd only advise a fighter to defend like that if they're under fire or against a murderous puncher.... I wouldn't apply pressure on with that, because you probably can't see where the shots are coming from, and you reduce your own countering opportunities. If you're gonna have a guard like that, try the Azumah Nelson, wide open kinda style, so you can side what's coming and train yourself to slip shots. I remember Smith vs Selby, whenever he dropped his guard he was nailed with hard left hooks, because he doesn't move his head at all. Footwork.... abysmal. No lateral movement, no bounce on the feet at all. It's just a case of following the guy around and getting hit. The worst fighter for this style is Stephen Smith. Why he tries to fight in this way is beyond me, given his natural boxing ability off the back foot.... allied to the fact that he's probably the worst inside fighter I've ever seen.
