The weight difference on fight night was massive. It was a disgrace that they were matched together. Hope Simpson was well paid

When Murray came back and Scott Harrison came back always wanted to see that fight at the time, as it would have been an absolute war. Murray was limited but was great to watch.

John murray was a good fighter. Pretty sure he cheated the scales for too long tho plus outside influences didnt really help either...with a style like he had age wasnt really on his side anyway. Highlighted the problem with a lot of british coaches for me. Cheating the scales coming in a lot bigger than opponents and just overpowering them. The problem is when they start to age...because they ve put too much reliance on being the bigger stronger man they start to struggle when the opponents equally as strong.

Its just lets stand infront of the oppoent and bombs away we,ll wear him down. It gets results but for how long before that weight starts creeping up on you. To top it off they dont take advantage of the prime years by staying around the same level fighting the same level of opponents for too long. Rios basically done to murray what murray had done to numerous guys previously. They should have fast tracked murray quicker.

Harrison done the same but got away with it cause he was training like a maniac.

Harrison also had 10x the boxing brain and footwork and all round boxing ability than John had.

Wouldnt go quite as far to say ten times moog but scot was the better fighter by a good bit. A lot of his success did come from cheating the scales in the same way as john. Testament to him that he kept it up for so long before the downfall. Both we,re coming in the ring a good bit heavier than opponents. Putting on a good bit of weight overnight. Scot managed it better than most as the years go by.

I agree they went in we'll hezby I think Scott must been coming in around 140-147 ibs when at Featherweight. Lots of fighters have done it Alex Arthur recently said he had put on 23ib on more than one occasion from between weight in and entering the ring ! I actually don't think it helps fighters putting on as much weight, maybe early on but not down the home straight but not in a hard 12 round fight

Used to love Murray great watch, unfortunately as pointed out a style that didn't lend itself to longevity

Agree on putting on to much weight being a hindrance, at murrays weight id say 8-12 lbs about right, however that's just an opinion be plenty disagree no doubt
