I just want to point this out. I really dislike this guy. His voice is so annoying. His commentating has always been horrible. I hate Smiths commentating with a passion, but I would take even Smith over this guy. Nick Halling needs to be upgraded to the main commentator after Ian Darke. Rawling is just too terrible to describe and I had to turn down the volume during the fight because of him. All my mates pointed out how annoying his voice sounds. He really pisses a lot of people off I reckon.
Sorry I completely disagree. Rawling is a very good commentator and has a good boxing brain. He's also very funny on Fighting Talk whenever he's on. It seems to me people aren't happy with whoever commentates on fights, we've had lots of threads recently slating commentators. You can't please everyone.
Rawling knows his stuff but I find him very dull to listen to, he reminds me of the boring voice priest on Father Ted. I let out a loud groan when I heard him last night (no homo).
He dumbs things down way too much. He also trips over his words an awful lot for a professional commentator. Ian Darke is easily the best modern commentator, followed by Bob Mee (in a proper role) IMO
John Rawling knows his stuff, he's been covering boxing for 30 odd years, he's a boxing man through and through. Surely it's totally subjective, for every person who thinks Rawlings sucks I could find you someone who thinks he's decent... Why is there so much angst on here about commentators? If you believe the posts on here, McCrory, Smith, Watt, Nelson, Woodhall, Rawling and McGuigan are all terrible...what does a boxing commentator have to do to be 'good'??
