Ruiz was great at nothing.

But, he could make you fight his fight, never ducked, and made the best use of what he had.

He would slow you down, frustrate and wear on you until you took chances then he made you pay for it.

King of pacing. No one liked it , but it worked.

 

1. Yes. The Tua fight.
2. I wanted him to beat Holyfield after getting jobbed in the first fight.
3. No
4. Yes, obviously. He beat Rahman not long after he was lineal.
5. Holyfield trilogy, Kirk, Rahman, Tua., Oquendo, Haye, Roy, Toney...D
6. Could beat them all. Probably only beats Foster.

Yes, I believe Haye, Valuev 1 & 2, McCline, Chagaev, Toney, Golota, Oquendo, Rahman, Jones, Johnson, Holyfield (all three), Williams, Feliz, Ballard, Tucker, Anis, Thunder, Nicholson, Kobozev .. and I think I have a couple more (I'm converting fights in my collection from DVD to Mpegs for home streaming).

2. Sure. I was rooting for him the first two fights against Holyfield. I thought he won the first and he clearly won the second.Those are the only times I can recall, though.

4. Sure. Why not. Honestly, he didn't clinch any more than the old timers did. 99 percent of those grainy old black and whites from the 30s and earlier are primarily clinch fests. And Hopkins fought exactly the same way Ruiz did when he went on his light heavy run, which is why I hated watching Hopkins fight when he moved up.

5. I think the above list shows 22 Ruiz fights. So at least 22. I think I have a couple non-title fights. Just haven't come across them again yet. And some amateur fights - against Griffin and Williams. But it's been decades.

6. Mac Foster. He wasn't very good.

 

I've only seen about 8 of his fights.
Very ugly to watch but I appreciated his style all the same.

I will say he should have tried to avenge his loss to Tua, but overall he had a very respectable career.

He certainly could beat any one of those you mentioned
