Ruiz was an underrated HW but to say he has a better resume than Usyk is a hard argument to make, and based on the above post you don't have the chops to make it a compelling one.

If you go purely by weight, as the thread starter erroneously set his argument up to be about, then technically more than one of Usyk's CW opponents were around the same fight night weight as the HW version of Evander that Ruiz beat, or not far off to make a noticeable difference. Gassiev might even have been heavier.

A lot of this confusion is predicated on the notion that cruiserweights are small men, and while that may be true when comparing them against HWs of the past two decades it doesn't hold true when you start making arguments about fighters from eras before that, something I've argued countlessly and fruitlessly with the old school hardheads in Classic.

Yeah, odd to bring that fight up in a plus point in your favour unless a) you've never watched the fight and are just going through Ruiz's boxrec record, or b) you know full well it was a robbery and are just trolling to try to rather pathetically needle Usyk fans (we're unflappable).

As to John Ruiz who cares? He was shattered by Tua in one round and lost by Roy Jones who in the HWs would have won only with him. That counts.

As to Andy Ruiz his resume is better than Usyk no doubts but his chances to KO Usyk or outboxe him are few. Usyk is not Joshua. Joshua won the rematch turning around Ruiz for all fight and landing some good shot. Usyk has a better footwork he would turn around Ruiz the same, using the jab, but like a shark suddenly he would attack Ruiz with his lethal combos winning by UD imo. We are talking about two different levels of boxing.

Usyk has only 4 fights in the HWs. Few.

AJ was a world champ when Usyk beat him, Holyfield was far olde than AJ when he lost to Ruiz, plus Ruiz got completely out-boxed by Roy Jones and sparked in the 1st round by Tua.

Golota was mental, Holyfield shot and Rahman probably waning and very inconsistent.

Heavyweight. What the OP seems to leave out is Usyk beat the #2 HW in the division and has the #1 running scared. Also, Usyk would absolutely clown any version of Ruiz.

Golota/Ruiz was also a terrible decision. The Holyfield fights were also marred by controversy - Ruiz faking low blows to go along with his already questionable tactics. This guy was really an absolute joke of a fighter if you actually analyze his career with any amount of scrutiny whatsoever. The only history he made was being absolutely schooled by former middleweights as a HW titlist not once but TWICE in his farcical career.

Ruiz was a dirty, boring and unwatchable fighter. Nice to have connections. And Usyk would have schooled him.

Quality>Quantity in this case. Usyk closed out his series of fights against Joshua 2-0.

Yeah, cruiser limit used to be strict 190. Now with the greater limit and rehydration, these guys are walking in 30 pounds (!) over that.
