The only question that remains is whether he's a first ballot Hall of Famer or will it take two tries
what puts everything into perspective is, no matter how shitty the guys style is, he was always in pretty good shape..unlike these fat ****s today
Ruiz always showed up in shape and tried to win. A pro's pro. He also became much fan-friendlier starting around the time of the Toney fight. And no one can question his heart after the Haye beating. Hope he enjoys a happy and healthy retirement and that some other HWs will follow his lead.
The only way he gets in to the hall of fame is if they take in to account he was the first Heavyweight champion on Latino heratage. His acheivements are not HOF worthy imo. Good champion who had the balls to fight everyone, win or loose he was there. i do not however, see him HOF material.
and no, i dont hate the guy.....i just hated his style...i wasted to many hours waiting for something to happen in a fight and it never did. i was waiting for a fight to breakout. how do you fight 3 fights with the most exciting heavyweight of the 90s in holyfield and they all be pretty boring? with that, i give you a website Flashback Should John Ruiz Fights Be X-Rated? With all the clutching, holding, hugging and clinching that goes on whenever he fights, surely it's about time his fights were censored from younger viewers, who may be confused about what exactly they're seeing. Is it a prizefight, a hugging contest or an exhibition of homosexual technique!?!? Surely it would also be more appropriate for a ring to exchange hands, rather than a world title belt? Also Michael Buffer could read the bands of marriage, this would be more to the point than the usual introductions! It's also quite possible that Ruiz's ringwalk music will be 'Here comes the Bride'. Let us hope David Haye doesn't get caught in a 'hug-a-thon' on Saturday night! His biggest concern may be to choose between a cutman or contraceptives! What a dilemma! Here's a short glimspe through the John Ruiz wedding album! This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Thx for the long and boring fights. You ducked no one though, all my respect to you as a person and best of wishes in the future with your gym and family.
And he lost every single time he stepped up. Yes, I can respect his tenacity. But the fact is he was not an elite fighter and he did not deserve the title shots he received. When he fight fought for the title he was one of the most undeserving mandatories in the history of the heavyweight division. I'm not exaggerating. Look it it up. He hadn't beaten anyone in the top thirty. Pair that with a style of fighting that makes Wlad look like Arthuro Gatti and a disgraceful loss to an old Roy Jones....Ruiz may just be the worst title holder of the past twenty years.
John Ruiz is underrated and unappreciated, the man would go anywhere to make a fight whether he's the champion or not he doesn't care and even if he gets robbed he still has the heart to make endless rematches if they give it to him. He would go to anyone's hometown and give them a competitive fight for as long as he can if not win and get robbed, even if he gets robbed he would fight them over and over in the same place without any bitching and crying like most fighters do, nor does he threaten to retire either. The boxing public is packed with losers and idiots, that's a sad truth. Idiots who would support and call cheating garbage like Margarito heroes and boo other guys willing to fight anyone and guys triple their size. Rather than appreciating those they would support worthless scrum like Margarito, Chavez Sr. and similar *******s that make a career cheating to fight and compete against guys half their size.
