Fair point to an extent. But, you act like Ruiz was a beast 5 years ago, but in decline since. I haven't noticed too much difference in Ruiz of 2001 and Ruiz of 2008/2009. In all cases, he made fights competitive by holding and other less than admirable tactics. I don't think Haye "beat him into retirment", it's just that Ruiz realizes that he can't hang with the elite and he never could. At his best he was effective and managed wins against other contenders in a weak era. He never fought a Klit thank god and he never looked all that impressive even when he was 28.

being a mandatory means jack ****. the WBA should be ashamed for putting him in there and leting him get his ass kicked like that.

John Ruiz the last 5 years- tell me if he had any business being awarded with a title shot

    7 fights

    4 LOSSES

    3 wins :good

    those 3 wins against

    25 wins 18 defeats otis tisdale (2007)
    38 wins 8 defeats Jamile McCline (200:cool:
    19 wins 10 defeats Adnan Sernin (2009)

mascaev was knocked the **** out by a 14-2 fighter in 1 round....when Vitali refused to fight him, being he was a mandatory by the WBC

so much for what mandatory really or is supposed to mean

    :patsch:patsch:rofl:rofl:rofl

you act like he had a few bad fights...all his fights were stinkers and the commentators would get on his ass or make jokes at some point....john ruiz nice guy.....but horrible on the eyes and never ever came close to backing up anything he said he was gonna do in terms of his game plan....he trains months to throw 1 punch and grab? YAWNNNN he got beat by 2 former middleweights...up to that point, there had been 1 person EVER to win a heavyweight title as well as a middleweight title....not only did 2 former middles do it in a span of a few years apart, they both beat ruiz ass to get it....(yeah i know toneys was thrown out, but he won the fight, and lost the title a few days later)

I wouldn't be surprised, if in some countries they'd mark the calendar day for the future anniversary celebrations!!!
It's absolutely and positively bright day in the world of Boxing!!!

(the only person upset by the news must be Valuev, now poor KingKong won't have a chance to fulfill the trilogy, too bad! :?)

    Ruiz did anything to win.

That is what a true man does.

There are very few fighters like Ruiz.

And it will be a long time until we see another John Ruiz.

Ruiz should have never been a heavyweight champ but he did.

    Much props to him!

The only halfway entertaining fight Ruiz was involved in was against Golata, other than that 53 out of 54 of Ruiz's fights were a snorfest.

Congratulations on your retirement, Ruiz. We boxing fans have waited many years for this day. Thank you.
