:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl C'mon man - Ruiz beats some tomato can, and you're saying he'll fight anybody! atsch He'll fight anybody all right - as long as King's refs let him hold excessively or fake low blows, or his judges turn in the gift decision if that doesn't work! :nod Notice how he hasn't "won" a fight against a rated fighter since King dumped him. No accident there. As soon as Ruiz fights any decent fighter, he'll either cheat or lose. THAT'S what his record shows! :yep
Zakman, I am not saying that Ruiz will take on anybody based on his win over Tisdale. I'm basing that opinion on his past record. He's got a pretty good resume when you look at his opponents. You'll notice I never said that Ruiz will beat anyone, I said he'd fight anyone. I have never known him to avoid a fight with a top guy. Now, maybe he's just chasing paydays, but at least he's not known for ducking anyone. Ruiz is no world beater to be sure, but I think you are letting your hatred of King bleed over into your opinion of The Quiet Man. I give the guy credit for accomplishing some things with limited talent. And if he got some shots because of his promoter, well, he's not the first one to do that.
My point is simply that if he fought anyone, it's because he knew that he had King's power backing him up. As far as my hatred of King, sure it extends to Ruiz himself, but that's because he went along with this whole thing - he held excessively, he overacted to get those low blow calls against Thunder, Holyfield, and Johnson. He knew he didn't have the ability to beat world class fighters within the rules - which is why he did what he did. King is the root of the this corruption, certainly, but Ruiz also deserves part of the blame. And not just Ruiz's opponents were cheated, so were the fans. For virtually any of Ruiz's fights, they were robbed of the legitimate boxing matches they paid to see, by Ruiz and King. Where I come from, that's fraud, and if they can't exactly be charged with a crime, they sure can be attacked for it, and have attention called to their misdeeds - for which they deserve condemnation, not credit.
Good post. I didn't see the Thunder fight, but I saw the Holyfield and Johnson fights, and Ruiz did get hit low in those. Not everytime he complained about it, and he did over-react, but I think you can say that about a lot of fighters when they get hit low. The biggest error in the Johnson fight wasn't low blows, it was when Ruiz knocked down Kirk with a right hand it was called a slip. And Evander and Johnny were both dirty in their fights. I like that fact that you are so vocal when it comes to fraud and corruption, not just in this case, but in others, too. I've noticed that in your posts on other topics. I certainly agree wtih you on that. I actually don't think we are that far apart when it comes to Ruiz. Neither of us think of him as a great fighter, and I will acknowledge along with you that he has benefitted from boxing politics and from King's connections. I guess I just don't think of him as negatively as you do.
Nice to see you get EXACTLY why I don't like Ruiz - the corruption that accounts for his holding a title, and "winning" fights he almost certainly would not have "won" using his mediocre boxing ability. And this is precisely WHY I look on him more negatively than say, Holyfiled, or others who have employed dirty tactics. Guys like Evander or Andrew Golota HAD world class ability, and they used dirty tactics now and again as a supplement to that. Ruiz used them as a REPLACEMENT for his lack of world class boxing skills. And that's what makes the corruption that allowed him to get away with this SO offensive. Because of his connections with King, he was given, essentially, a free pass to cheat with impugnity. If the rules were properly enforced against Ruiz's holding, he would have been disqualified in virtually every fight he had once King manuevered him into contention - and if the refs didn't buy into his overacting when hit with borderline body shots, he would have been counted out in the Holyfield and Johnson fights. Or, he would have had to get up and FIGHT, within the rules. One of the clear points of evidence showing just HOW much his getting away with illegal tactics is seen in what happened when King dropped him. Knowing he no longer had the "cover" to get away with his illegal holding, he didn't resort to it, and what happened? He lost every fight with world class opponents he's had since. All of this is why Ruiz is my primary target in my ongoing "crusade" to expose boxing corruption, particularly that of boxing's most corrupt figure, Don King. Ruiz is the most glaring example of how corruption ruins the sport by elevating undeserving fighters to statuses they would never attain on the basis of ability. This, as I said, not only cheats the opponents, it cheats the fans. And it is just plain wrong!
Yeah, he didn't hold excessively and got beaten by a more talented fighter - which is what would have happened in all his other fights at the world level, if the rules had been properly enforced.:yep Without the illegal tactics, Ruiz is no more than a gatekeeper at the world level, if that.
