This could not be MORE wrong. Ruiz is a DISGRACE to the sport of boxing, the complete OPPOSITE of a "warrior." He is a CHEATER. In EVERY fight he "won" against world class opposition, he BLATANTLY violated the rules against excessive holding. Talk about a cowardly way of "fighting" that is the opposite of being a true "warrior" in the ring! :patsch

Even worse, on at least THREE occassions - against Jimmy Thunder, Evander Holyfield in their second fight, and against Kirk Johnson - Ruiz BLATANTLY faked "low blows" to either get a undeserved point deduction (Thunder), avoid getting counted out when knocked down (Holyfield), or force a bogus DQ (Johnson).

A more DIS-honorable way of "winning" fights I could not imagine. Ruiz is a FRAUD and a DIGRACE to this fine sport. He is Exhibit A of everything wrong with boxing.

The original thread said "resume", not "who looks better while beating (or losing to like he did versus Lummox) out of shape guys".

Huggy Bear's resume > Brittley's resume

I still cannot get over how people just look at a boxrec record and say, oh, this guy has some good names on his ledger and assume that this means he is any good - without understanding actually what went on in those fights.

I'm not a big fan of the Klits, but both of them are LIGHT-YEARS superior to Ruiz, who would have been lucky to have won a regional title without Don King greasing the wheels for his illegal and disgraceful tactics.

Ruiz's resume is better than Quitali's, that is all.

I go by what fighters did, not the would have, could have, should have.

Ruiz faced better fighters than Brittley did.

So what? He CHEATED. If you are going to go by what he "did" you have to take account of his excessive holding and blatant overacting to force bogus "low blow" calls.:yep

did he "cheat" like quitali did in the olympics and take steroids? NOPE.

did he "cheat" like toney did against ruiz and batchedler and take roids? NOPE.

did he run from his mandatory like quitali did and have to get forced to fight the mandatory, then cancel 4 straight times? NOPE.

Did he face better opposition than nearly all, if not all, of the HWs of the 00s? YEP.

No :deal

Who was the best fighter he faced? Rahman?

Wlad has fought Byrd, Brock and Peter. Everyone of them beat Rahman.

Quitali didn't.

He ran from Rahman like Bilal from a fat man in the projects in the cinematic masterpiece House Party.

The WBC said "nyet, no Brock, yes Rahman".

You are one of these people who makes the mistake of assuming if some palooka shares a ring with decent fighters that makes him any good. There is a REASON Ruiz held excessively and faked "low blows" to "win" fights - he had all the boxing ability of a regional clubfighter. And his connections with Don King allowed him to get away with it!!! :patsch

The Ruiz Fraud is one of the greatest scandals in the sport of boxing in this decade. Your attitude shows that King's chicanery can fool some of the boxing public. Thankfully, it does not appear he and Ruiz fooled many!

Open Letter From John Ruiz to Vitali Klitschko

This content is protected
10.12.04 - Dear Vitali, The boxing public is confused as to who the man in the heavyweight division is today. If you defeat Danny Williams tomorrow (Saturday) night, I challenge you to a world heavyweight championship unification match, my WBA belt against your WBC belt. Here are some of your recent quotes.

“I want to be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

"I'm the heavyweight champion of the world. And when you have this belt, you have to seek out the best." .

"You put your name into the (history) books by going out there and fighting the toughest guys. What kind of champion would it be who would say, `No, I don't want to fight this man because he is too tough?' How could you have the respect for him? I want to be different."

“I want to fight against the strongest challenger in the world.”

I agree. There’s only one place to settle this and that’s in the ring, not by what boxing commentators or writers say. You’re fighting tomorrow (Saturday) night, but this message is for Chris Byrd and Lamon Brewster, too. As you know I support a heavyweight tournament matching the four major world title-holders. Tournament or not, though, I intend to only fight so-called world champions.

If you really want to fight the best and the toughest in our business consider my accomplishments and compare them to anyone else (including yourself) in our division:

I’ve beaten three former world champions – Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker.

I’ve beaten five top 10 contenders in world title fights – Holyfield, Rahman, Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo and Kirk Johnson.

I’ve had eight WBA title fights, fought 93 championship rounds, and been a world champion for more than three years, two months and counting.

Boxing is about winning and imposing your will on your opponent, not style points. I’ve fought and beaten the best heavyweights in the world other than you.

I hear that HBO is holding a date for you in March of 2005, so for boxing fans all over the world, let’s take the first step and unify our titles.

Good luck Saturday and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

John “The Quietman” Ruiz

WBA Heavyweight Champion

Ruiz rips Klitschko!

November 7, 2005

In the wake of yet another announcement postponing the Klitschko-Rahman fight, WBA heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz has come out of his corner firing at Vitali Klitschko, calling for the World Boxing Council to strip Klitschko of his title and appealing to the public and media for their reevaluation of the heavyweight division.
Klitschko has pulled out of his scheduled title fight this Saturday against Rahman due to an alleged knee injury. It marks the fourth time Klitschko, who hasn't made a single mandatory defense in the 20 months since he's been WBC champ, has claimed an injury forcing postponement of his title defense against Rahman.

"I'm not surprised and I don't think too many people in boxing are really surprised," Ruiz (41-5-1, 28 KOs) remarked about Klitschko pulling out of yet another match. "First it was his hamstring injury from jogging, then it spread to his back, and now it's his knee. It's always something with this guy. They should really check his heart. HBO and anybody else that supports this guy as the so-called real heavyweight champion of the world should be ashamed of themselves. They have their own agendas. Klitschko doesn't want to fight anybody he can't handpick. Who has he ever beaten? World champions have to defend their title against the best opponents in the world. The WBC should strip him of the belt and award it to Rahman. Klitschko should pay Rahman for all of the time he's wasted training. They had to force him to fight Rahman and he still pulled out.

"What does Klitschko mean in Russian, chicken? He quit on the stool with a shoulder injury against (Chris) Byrd in the 10th round of a 12-round fight that he was leading big. A doctor gave him approval to fight Rahman, but he chose not to fight. He's tall, big and may look like a heavyweight champion. But he doesn't have the heart and soul of a world champ. It's not what's on the outside, it's what's inside that counts."

Ruiz, the first and only world heavyweight champion of Hispanic heritage, has been an outspoken proponent for a tournament between the four acknowledged world heavyweight champions to determine one universally recognized title holder, as well as the driving force for stricter testing of performance enhancing drugs in boxing. He presently is at training camp in Las Vegas preparing for his December 17th title defense in Berlin against Nicolay Valuev (42-0, 31 KOs).

"I've never ducked anybody," Ruiz noted. "Nobody ever had to force me to fight a mandatory. I'm going halfway around the world to fight a giant - one-foot taller and 100-pounds heavier than me - in his backyard because I'm a true world champion. Valuev is my mandatory and after I take care of that fight, I'm pushing hard once again for a tournament so the public will have one heavyweight champion. Klitschko's the reason we haven't had a tournament because he wants to pick and choose his opponents like (Danny) Williams, (Oleg) Maskaev or (Calvin) Brock), instead of putting his belt on the line against one of the other champions. If the WBC does the right thing and makes Rahman the new champion like he deserves, boxing will be able to have a tournament next year and the public will know who the real man is in the heavyweight division, John Ruiz. Compare my record to any of the other heavyweight champions."
Ruiz has defeated three world champions - Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker - as well as top 10 contenders Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo and Kirk Johnson.

Oh, thanks for reminding us - not only was Ruiz a CHEATER, he was a WHINER, too.

Biggest disgrace to the sport in my 30 years of following the fight game. That this glorified clubfighter held a title due to cheating a corruption is a SCANDAL.
