The first part of the jab and grab is the jab and Ruiz does not want to be in a jabbing contest with Klitschko.

Ruiz is deceptive alright - nobody can deceive a referee by faking low blows like he does! The Johnson fight is indeed a classic example of Ruiz's deceptive "techniques.":yep

    This a good point..

But one thing Ruiz is capable of is great combination punching when the opponent is in range.. (Watch the Ballard fight and the Anis fight..) Wlad likes to hook from close range.. Ruiz can be very dangerous in spurts..

Wlad can beat Ruiz, But it is possible that (like Ross, Pannell, Brewster, Sanders) Ruiz has a few of the technical tools it takes to make WK look very sketchy..

    Good food for thought..

Although , i am a bit tired of hearing about Ruiz coming back.

Its about time he relaxed and gave up boxing... He did a few god things..

    Time to enjoy his health.........

Good tough champions do what it takes to win..

    Good bad or ugly..

Ruiz indeed was a winner and a very unlikely champion..

    After the Tua KO loss..
Who would have thought he would have done a lot of the things he went on to do years later..

Who became Champ?? Tua or Ruiz ????

    Its strange isn't it..:good

I don't buy that at all, "good champ do what it takes to win." It's exactly that kind of "anything goes" mentality that is ruining this sport. Ruiz for years violated the rules against excessive holding, faked low blows, and when that didn't work, relied on King's influence to get him some favorable scoring.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe that there is just something wrong with a limited fighter like Ruiz being allowed to violate the rules with impugnity to make up for the fact that he didn't have world class ability. That's just wrong - and it's symptomatic of everything that's wrong with boxing today.

    Oh, and Ruiz wasn't a "champion" - he was a belt-holder. There's a difference.

Ruiz is a useful fighter. Even if you hate his style he is still one of the more capable heavyweights around. I would rather see him fight Ibragimov than see Ibragimov fight Holyfield. Want to proof an up and coming fighter is any good? Let him fight Ruiz.

Another heavyweight who is frequently overlooked is Chris Byrd. I don't think he'll beat Wladimir Klitschko, ever, Klitschko is just all wrong for him, but vs Chagaev or Ibragimov it could be interesting. Strange that those three are all southpaws.

Apples and oranges, Byrd has more talent in his left nut than Ruiz has ever had. Being difficult to score a victory over is not laudable in its own right and does not make one a good fighter.

Exactly. And he wins fights WITHIN the rules, and usually without the help of his promoter.

The scandal of Ruiz holding a title belt derives precisely from his utter lack of legitimate boxing ability. That such a talentless palooka could hold a title based on cheating and corruption should be offensive to ALL fans of this sport.

not a PPV blockbuster but still a difficult test for the untested.

Is David Rodriguez any good? Not sure, have him fight Ruiz and see if he can handle Ruiz's style or have him fight Byrd and see if he doesn't get tied into knots trying to put a glove on Byrd.

Useful and exciting aren't the same thing.
