I have to make this thread. Ya'll knew this was coming. Both are the first man to win the title for their race: John for PR and Andy for Mexico (Though I think both are born in the US). Both have the same last name. Quick Breakdown of John Ruiz for the younger boxing fans: John Ruiz won his WBA title from a faded ATG Holyfield. He went 1-1-1 in the series. He famously lost the WBA title to a another ATG Roy Jones. John won the title again from Hasimm Rahman and had defences against Fres (Oquendo (TKO), Golota (UD) and James Toney (NC Toney won but failed a drug test). He lost the title to Sugar Nikolay Valuev. All in all He retired with a record of 44-9-1 (30 KO). John had a boring grab and jab style during his title days but he did have KO power in his right hand. He had a solid chin (Tua caught he really good and was past his prime vs Haye). Andy Ruiz has fast hands and average power (AJ was/is chinny). So who wins the Battle of the Ruizs?
I suspect that John's boring jab n grab will shut down Andy's better and faster skills and he wins on points. Given a ref that doesn't stand for that nonsense, Andy wins comfortably.
Yeah that's how I see it. JR's style is to get off first and smother the counter while AR's style is the press forward and counter what comes at him, so from a style perspective it favours JR. That is of course if JR has a ref who allows him to clinch. Get a ref that takes away his clinching and Andy probably wins.
Yeah I don't rate JR much. But he seemed to get favourable scoring a la Canelo quite a bit. You'd probably have to factor that in.
