The Prime Ruiz who had a Triology with Holyfield and had wins over Johnson,Golota,Oquendo... Or the energetic buzzsaw who upset an aging and out of shape Ali? Yey i know i know but i think these are guys are better than... Wepner and Cobb(other thread)... Leon was very inexperienced but was already a good fighter and pretty fast, i can see him beating some lower top 10 guys today, and maybe upsetting some top ones.. I know his prime didnt last long i guess his best wins were over Ali(obviously) Mercardo,Ledoux(draw),Evangelista,Righetti,Lopez(draw)... Didnt have as many good wins as Ruiz but those guys were either lower top 10 guys or gate keeper, top 20 types.. Does Neon Leon outhustle and outspeed RUiz... Or is Ruiz to awkward and experienced? Does he maul Leon and stop him?
I'm going with Ruiz' akwardness and experience. At least every time Ruiz fought, he was Ruiz. Leon was a shot in the dark in reference to what fighter showed up come fight night, and usually it was not a good one. Ruiz UD L.Spinks
Bad look for Neon. Hushpuppy just has too much size and strength...and is too effective at minimizing your effectiveness. I don't see Neon coming up with answers, and in fact don't see him even standing up to the questioning for too long.
Leon as a pro was nothing special, but Ruiz is even more limited. If the rules are properly enforced against that cheater, he loses a wide UD. And no, Ruiz is not that much better than Chuck Wepner or Tex Cobb. Wepner and Cobb also were decent sportsmen who didn't hold excessively and fake "low blows" to "win" fights they would otherwise have lost.
the hate for ruiz will be overwelming but anyone with all their marbles will clearly see what it is and go ruiz tko 4th
Who did Ruiz ever KO? He went a span of over 5 years without a KO. He had no power and atrocious skills. He couldn't even KO Roy Jones who has one of the worst Chins around. Ruiz lost to TWO former Middleweights he was a disgrace.
it's leon spinks dude seriously you're gonna argue this? the guy was rumored to have bene knocked over by a stiff wind one night while doing road work
And it's Ruiz - a guy with NO boxing skills to speak of, unless you count CHEATING. In a fair fight - where the RULES are enforced - even Leon Spinks beats this talentless palooka.
I think your your letting your, dislike for his boring style sway your judgement.... like him or not he was ring savvy had a decent punch and a lot of other intangibles.. Obviously he has some skills,to be able to win a nation golden gloves title(were he cant use those tactics).. Just look at his wins he has some good ones.. He would have beaten Cobb or Wepner without much difficulty. But i do agree that Leon has a shot here, for a brief period he had excellent speed for a hw, as well as a buzzsaw type style that would trouble a lot of lesser skilled hws.. His prime just didnt last long and he was a tomato can most of his career, thats why he is underrated... I havent forgotten how awesome he was in the Olympics knocking out the Cuban and easily beating his comp. He was one of the better LH ive seen in the olympics(close to Holy) and had alot of natural talent.. He drew with Ledoux(legit contender) in only his 6th fight.. And beating Ali (out of shape or not) in only his 8th fight was impressive for a guy who was a Lh 2 years before... ITs amazing how fast talent can go down the drain so fast.
If the "rules" were also enforced in Bernard Hopkins fights, he would have more losses...but they aren't, some fighters fight dirty to win and some don't.
He dropped iron chin Holyfield,he also stopped Oquendo and Tucker(faded version but still known for his chin).. Ruiz ony hit Jones once and when he did he hut him... And Toney ended up proving to be one of the best hws around for a couple years... He had some good wins and was dominating everyone... Until he let hmself get too out of shape..... But i never said Ruiz was a big puncher but enough to keep guys honest, he could certainly hurt a guy with a suspect or below average chin like Spinks.
anarci's right, Zak. You're blinded by your hate for Ruiz. This isn't Jinx Spinks we're talking about. It's Neon. I mean, I hate Gerald McClellan but if you put him in a fantasy match-up with Terry Norris (who I like a lot) it's hard for me to deny that Terry gets KTFO.
