Prime Ortiz wins by KO. Old Ortiz probably loses by KO as he appears very chinny and slow footed.

John Ruiz has wins over fighters that are respectively: faster, harder hitters, physically stronger, better movers, better inside fighters and have better stamina than Ortiz. It's actually insane that Ruiz has some of the wins that he does, but the fact remains that he does.

Honestly, I can't imagine a scenario where Ortiz beats Ruiz, it's hilarious that I actually feel this way but I really do.

I agree that Ruiz would be much harder for Ortiz to deal with than people think. Ruiz was a god-awful boxer to watch but he was effective in his hit n hold approach. I reckon Golota won his fight against Ruiz though, and it's not to say that Ortiz couldn't do the same. 50-50ish for me.

who the eff is this mythical Luis Ortiz that so many think is some amazing HW? Guy has done squat as a pro, but lose his big shots.

Would not be a fair fight. Ortiz is much older than John Ruiz.

In a fair fight - where the RULES of boxing are enforced against Ruiz - he loses against decent fighters every time. Even today's ancient Ortiz beats him, let alone the one of a few years ago.

Any time this cheater comes up, it should noted that Ruiz only "won" fights against decent fighters by breaking the RULES against excessive holding. And, in several fights by blatantly overacting to draw bogus low blow calls to get crucial point deductions (Thunder, Holyfield II) or a bogus DQ (Johnson). His entire career against world class opposition is utterly fraudulent. Without Don King, he's a regional beltholder, at best.

People should be as upset - if not moreso - at these forms of cheating as they seem to get over PED use. And Ruiz is the worst ever practitioner of this, a glorified clubfighter who - if it weren't for shenanigans inside the ring and corruption outside of it - would be best remembered for getting starched by David Tua in 19 seconds.

I like Ortiz a lot, but geez... one would think his resume is solid and tight for all the hypothetical fights he wins here.

It concerns me that you have placed one man vs another man who is both on ending in 'z' letter for surnames.

Ortiz from around the Jennings fight would crush him easily. Ruiz was a cheating fraud with good promotional connections. He never beat any skilled fighters legitimately.

Very much agree with this; a motivated relatively youthful King Kong should beat the snot out of Ruiz, but Ruiz would probably pull it out in some disputed SD after a dirty, boring snoozer of a fight.

Ruiz would spoil his way to a win. Way more proven against way better fighters, and Ortiz doesn't possess any blinding physical or stylistic attributes to offset Ruiz's awkward style. Ortiz is someone who looks clueless when a fight isn't going his way (see Scott fight) and looks to get frustrated quite easily if he can't impose his rhythm on the fight, which would be bad news against Ruiz. We shouldn't forget also that Ruiz could crack when he sat down on shots, and Ortiz's chin isn't the greatest. Ortiz likely does ok in the early rounds against a flopping or raggedy looking Ruiz, but gradually begins to eat jabs and getting tied up in clinches where Ruiz is the one doing the majority of the work. Eventually Ortiz starts tiring and eating bigger shots, and if any of them catch him clean he might even go down at some point. Ruiz by ugly UD.
