LOL when I saw the name "John Ruiz" exactly.. He is retired now and runs a gym in MA. He also wrote a children's book believe it or not.

Was better than people give him credit for.
Fought anyone who would get in the ring with him,has some decent wins, and questionable losses

Well he does have a good resume, and while his style was ugly to watch, it was effective.

And Ruiz vs. Golota is a great fight...WAR!

Well, even though he wasn 't the most skilled fighter, I loved watching him fight. He always comes in great shape, he always finds a way to win, never backs up, comes to fight everybody!! He ruins other fighters' already ruined gameplan :D

John Ruiz sucked ass extremely boring to watch, and if he didn't have Don King as his promoter he would of been exposed for the club fighter he was.

He was a good fighter, but his style was ugly. Mind you, he was a LHW and very good boxer so after the Tua fight. He had to adjust somehow to compete with the HW's which created this ugly style that worked for him. First man to drop Holyfield and he hurt many other contenders with that sneaky right hand of his. Stoney always made him look bad with all the antics. Stoney and Zakman went to school together, that is why he knows John so well. Seriously, I grew up with him and he is a class act and all around good person. He feared no one and fought everyone they put in front of him. Now he is retired and enjoying his money. Yes, he has books and other things to keep him busy and helping others. Can't say that about many other retired fighters. He is still young and spend much more time with his family. God bless John Ruiz, I will see you soon in Chelsea.

has any other fighter achieved more, with less skills, than john ruiz has?
i was in the m.e.n arena the night he fought david haye. i was never a fan of ruiz and his style, but that night changed my opinion of him.
he got **** loads of abuse from the fans and took a hiding from begining to end, but he never gave up coming forward and trying to win.
a determined and very tough man.

The only fighter in history to be outperformed by his cornerman.

Also has many questionable "wins" gained through the use of illegal holding tactics and disgraceful faking of "low blows." Not to mention the gift decision against Golota.

Give the man credit. He was ruled the heavyweight division for quite sometime now. I would put him top 5 greatest heavyweights ever.

Honestly, John Ruiz made the most of what he had. You can never knock a bloke for that.

An ATG! So good Golota couldnt even hit his balls, actually beat SNV, went 9 with ATG Haymaker and was never KO'd (except twice).......
