Using illegal tactics like excessive holding and faking "low blows" to "win" fights you wouldn't be able to win within the rules is poor sportsmanship, to say the least. So is using connections with a powerful promoter to get multiple title shots you don't deserve.

Then that's the referee's fault for not enforcing the rules. Using a powerful promoter isn't anything new either.
