Presuming that John puts in the performance required Vs Paul Truscott would anyone be interested in seeing Rendall meet a live challenge for the first time since Kiko Martinez? His Euro challengers have been shocking. Should Simpson go through with the move down this fight would make absolute sense.

Reigning Commonwealth Featherweight champion Vs Reigning Super Bantamweight European champion!!!

    Who wins?

    :good

I'm not sold on Rendall. He's a decent operator but i wouldn't go any further on him then that. I think his main attribute is his size and his long arms at that weight. With John he be fighting a similar sized guy used to fighting bigger men and with also championship experience and ambitions. I think he could beat Rendall he has the ability to do it i think Rendall goes a sleep during early rounds and i think if John got going he could take control of fight. It's a pick em but i'd fancy Simpson to nick it on a tight decision.

Simpson beats Munroe imo, this would be a good fight and the biggest test of Munroe's career to date.

I think if Munroe could improve his punch technique (and therefore power) he could do better.

As he is, his main strengths are his awkwardness and strength, whilst an underrated asset is his ability to cover up well.

I was at the 2nd Martinez fight and whilst it wasn't captivating, I was impressed by the way he diffused the Spaniard and won pretty easily.

The most frustrating thing for me is that he doesn't look to force the issue enough - he ought to have got rid of Martinez around the 10th in the rematch, and also the tough African (Netty I think) should have been blown away in the first four rounds. That could be his downfall in future.

Perhaps there was a little bit of a kneejerk, he easily (despite the cards) beat Martinez in the first fight, straight after he iced Dunne - on short notice as well, that he was a potential future world beater.

I think he has been handled fairly well since then, though one of the challengers was awful, another pretty average.

I'd stick my neck out and say he can hang at world level, but won't be particularly successful against the very elite. He can toy with limited guys like Martinez and domestic level guys, but looking at the WBC top 10 (he is #2 I believe) I don't see many names that I would put money on to beat.

Munroe needs to do something fairly sharpish if he wants to move up IMO. He's had a full four months off since his win against a very, very average Afrobum. If he wants to move up he needs to keep more active.

I believe purse bids for the mandatory Maladrottu fight aren't far away. That will be a tough test for him and one, if Maladrottu is even close to what he was, I think Munroe will struggle with.

It's time for him to make a move I feel. I think he only has one choice (if he has real ambition at world level) whatever way he goes and thats to fight Nishioka for the WBC strap. A win against Maladrottu would be a nice tune up for that. If he beats Maladrottu and goes back to Euro/Afrobum opponents then you'd have to question his desire.

Personally I do think he wants to go up and have a crack at the highest level. I just don't think he knows exactly what way he should be going about it. Thats where Maloney should be helping him out

I think Munroes team realise he's in a very fortunate position to be holding one of the worlds most prestigious belts... I doubt they'll risk it.

What did you see in Colne last week... you may have posted it before but I cannot recall.... sparring?

This one intrigues me actually, it never even crossed my mind until you posted the thread. Clearly Munroe isn't #2 in the world - courtesy of Don Jose Sillyman but as I have posted previously think he can hang at the top end, based upon his awkwardness, strength and durability.

Simpson has been ripped off a few times, but to his credit he has always come back strongly.

Both are pretty slow starters, Simpson was struggling with Truscott early, who is pretty slick but nowhere near as awkward as Munroe.... who himself seems to spend a little too much time sussing the opponent out for my liking.

Perhaps that was because he knew he was a class above his recent opposition and he was taking it easy, I don't know.

Stamina won't really play a part as both are generally very well conditioned.... whilst Munroe won't be bothered about a supposed strength advantage as he is probably the biggest 122lb'er going around, certainly in Europe.

Could Simpson make 122, without draining?

i think munroe would walk away with his hand raised after a close fight, i can see him being to slick and utilising his footspeed and movement to good affect

    Munroe by decision.

I really don't see what Simpson offers that Martinez didn't. It's pretty much the same styles clash. Except Martinez is a much harder puncher, Simpson is the better boxer, but essentially its a similar matchup.

It's not as if Simpson would enjoy a huge size advantage, Munroe is a beast. He's built like a light welter.

I walked past him on my way to the car at the Moore vs Piccirillo fight, he is the same height as me, 5'7''/8ish, how he gets down to 122 is beyond me.

I'm probably a bad judge as I am seriously broad, but he LOOKED about 135-140ish, though he wasn't much slighter than I am, and it was only the week after, and by all accounts he is a good liver.

    Strange!
