It was so strange about Duane against Kenny and Tate, Duane knew how to slip and block right hands and had been well trained, but in these two bouts he just froze and took one easy to see right hand after another. With Norton he did get hit first in the throat so there is that added cause, but he still just froze and made no effort in either go to cause the right hands to not hit his head.

This is the reason I posted recently that Gerrie Coetzee would have taken Bobick's head off in the 1st round if they ever fought.

Bobick fought both Norton and Tate like Buddy Baer fought Louis in the '42 rematch.... Its uncanny......

Duane was such a slow starter and easy to hit. He had the hand up style and kept getting hit by the same right hand. Duane never developed as a pro but I think he was ruined (confidence) in his fight with Teofilo S. he had a few Rubber matches with Nick Wells in the amatuers and both of them KO'd Holmes late in Larry amatuer Career. Bobick was clean KO'd by Kallie Knoetzee....

Tate destroyed him, if only Big John had stayed on track.

Too bad a good fighter like Duane had such a poor showing against Tate. Seems like the only time Duane got any press was when he lost - - - and worse the losses were on television.

Bobick's rep really took some hits vs Norton, Tate and Knoetze...he wasn't that bad a fighter, but through losses like these and his tendency to freeze and fold, he became the poster boy for the classic white hope stumble bum.

Of course beyond that, it took a long time for him to rehabilitate his reputation after the lethally high profile Munich disaster with Stevenson to the point that he could get to Norton in the first place. Extend that string including Ken, John and Kallie to also include Teo, and the deficit becomes truly monumental. That Duane was a slow starter was bad enough, but to get taken out by crushing right hands as he was against each of these four conquerors, well maybe he should be thankful that Shavers wasn't on that list of opponents. Earnie might have killed him.

Yey but alot had to do with Tates chin, no matter how disciplined he would have been, eventually he would have got kod.... He was handily winning the fight with Weaver before catching a hail mary shot... Many think Teofilio ruined his chin in the olympics.
