I reckon this would be quite an interesting bout. To very good technical fighters who were very effective from the outside and on the move.

Pedroza used to be one of my favourites..his stock hasnt fallen at all, its just people surpassed him when I started seeing more of them.

Pedroza had the longer reign but Famechon in his prime is hell for anyone. Dont see it as a cut and dry fight, though my gut says El Alacran.

Very interesting fight. Hard to call I think.

Though neither fighter has faced another fighter quite like what they will be facing in this fight, I think the two most instructive fights to look at to glean something are Pedroza's fight with Bernard Taylor and Johnny Famechon's fight with Jose Legra.

Both Pedroza and Famechon struggled in those respective fights and both should struggle even more in facing each other because of the extra features they each bring to the table. To clarify:

Pedroza seemed quite unable, or unwilling to try and cut the ring off on Taylor or try and force him into exchanges. He seemed content to watch Taylor run around the ring whilst throwing a range finding punch or two and the rounds would often be decided in the odd flurry or two that Taylor would throw in the final seconds of the round. If he connected, he arguably stole the round. If he didn't connect he lost it for Cory Spinksism.

In facing Famechon, Pedroza can expect good leg movement and good stamina, like Bernard had, but Johnny is much tougher, able to dig deep and work the body in the clinches and throws a much better jab as well as both an offensive and defensive ploy (Johnny has a better defensive game all round than Taylor does mind you).

Now with regards to Famechon, he struggled with Legra's handspeed, reach and flurrying ability and was unable to get much done on the outside. He had to get on the inside to work Legra over, where Jose's long arms were quite ineffective in producing an inside, body attack.

In facing Pedroza, Johnny can likewise expect to struggle on the outside because of Pedroza's speed, rangy punching and flurrying ability. To further compound problems though, Pedroza's a much better operator on the inside, using legal and was as illegal means to rough an opponent up. Johnny won't have it his own way in the clinches.

So how will it ultimately turn out? I'm not sure. Maybe Pedroza might nick it because of his greater offensive outpout, but it will be darn close. Can picture a one or two point decision. I won't pick against my boy Johnny though. I'll go with a draw.

Yes, I like that fence. :good

Now that is what I call a comprehensive analysis.

Can't argue with sweet's analysis really.

Only thing i would add is that i think it was aroudn the time of the Taylor fight where it started to become clear that Pedroza had lost a step.still, it's quite possible he would have fought Taylor the same at any stage in his career.

My pick is Pedroza , and with confidence ,Famechon was a fine boxer and a gritty fighter ,but his best wins were over a Harada at the tail end of his career after coming up two weights, and Legra who was flashy and good but not great.Pedroza made multiple defenses against all comers he was a ring general, a dirty calculating box fighter who could brawl and had some finesse.Pedroza by DEc as famechon was too good a boxer to get kod in his prime.
