Interesting fight. I don't think either man faced an opponent quite like the other, certainly not a high end one anyway, so it's hard to draw any reasonable inferences on this one.

Just thinking about it intuitively, I think Barrera's handspeed would cause Famechon some problems, but probably not as much as one would think, becuase Johnny wasn't one to stay at mid range and have exchanges, where Barrera was probably most efficient. Famechon was either on your chest and launching body shots and uppercuts, or on the outside, living behind a jab and a tight guard, using savvy footwork to avoid having the ring cut on him.

I think Famechon will struggle to land a lot on Barrera, especially given that he hardly used his right hand much, and Barrera will find Famechon's jab somewhat predictable after a few rounds, but he should get the better of it on the inside and do most of his scoring work there.

I think the fight will be determined by whether Barrera can make Famechon fight at a distance he likes, drawing him out of his comfort zones and into some exchanges where his combination punching can take effect. He was able to draw fighters like Morales and Hamed into the zones he preferred, but Johnny has a better defense and ring movement than either of those two, and won't be as easily drawn into engagement.

Gut (and biased heart) tells me Johnny pulls it out with a tight decision, by a couple of points.

I shall look into Johnny Famechon. I've never heard of the man. Was he a Featherweight?

Really interesting fight, am going to rewatch both guys (Barrera at 126) obviously and make a pick, not an easy one IMO.

Yeah he was a featherweight. There is some stuff up on youtube if you search his name.

If you're looking for his fights probably the most available are his fights with Jose Legra, Vicente Saldivar and his two fights with Fighting Harada.
