Thanks for that, very kind. I worked for a small post house in Soho for many years, I was the technical and operations manager, basically running all the technology, creating all the work flows, fixing any issues and training staff. It's sad the company I worked for folded as they were really really good people, but unfortunately the whole industry has been on it's knees for a couple of years now and we just couldn't survive. I'm taking the rest of the summer off and will reevaluate my future. Like many others there's a good chance I might leave the TV industry as things look very bleak.

Thanks pal, all a bit shocking especially as the team I worked for were like family, really good people. Ultimately, it's probably a good thing for me personally as I've been thinking about retraining and doing something different which isn't so London-centric and I can move out, so I'm seeing it as the push I probably needed.

So sad to see what could be a great industry just reduced to this. Budgets getting slashed all over and alot of work just being farmed out to India for pennies. The industry has really eaten itself

 

Good luck with it pal. I've been out of TV for about 12 years or I'd have asked around - most of the people I worked with on the production side have got out of it too. Mostly went into project management or alternative tech roles (one production director is now an app developer running streams in the Scottish Parliament of all things).

Industries change but there are always openings for good people.

To get a job in the TV industry, you either have to know someone or be a very beautiful woman who is ready to go the extra mile. I know several TV Bosses who have grossly exploited young girls who had a dream of becoming a TV host.
