I admit I don't know much about Kilbane (maybe I will assume that most of us do not?), so I would be interested in any info about you may have. I am trying to redo my featherweight rankings and discovered that Kilbane is the longest reigning fw champion, from 1912-23....yet he does not appear in anyones rankings and I honestly don't remember any discussion about him on this forum? What do you know about him....does he have a place in a top 10 fw list? top 20??? he did not recieve even a 10th place vote during ESB classics poll of 3 years ago:
Nat Fleischer ranked Kilbane as the #5 All-Time Featherweight; Both Charley Rose and Herb Goldman ranked him as the #7 All-Time Featherweight
Don't know if you have seen this but if not worth a look. It's got comments by historians & a long bio page. http://www.johnnykilbane.com/home.php
LOL, I just read it last night before I posted this thread, but thanks for putting it out there. I am just curious how someone who held the title for so long, and is ranked highly by historians, does not even recieve a single ESB vote on our polls? I am not criticizing us for missing him, just curious how as to how he has slipped under the radar.
Anyone else???? I would also welcome some info on how someone could hold the title so long yet only have 9 defenses???? if written word is accurate in that????
